Callahan Garrity is the owner of House Mouse, a cleaning service that tidies up after Atlanta's elite. She's also a former cop and a part-time sleuth. She and her coterie of devoted helpers can ransack a house for clues faster than it takes a fingerprint to set.
Some people might call Callahan Garrity nosy, but she prefers to think of her tendency toward snooping as a healthy interest in the truth. So when news reaches her of her cousin Patti's death during a carjacking, Callahan shakes off her House Mouse cleaning uniform to don her detective's cap. It's not that she doesn't have confidence in the Atlanta police - she used to be among their ranks - but the crime is too incongruous with Patti's suburban life to seem like a random incident.

Heartbreaking, exciting, non-stop
Callahan is a great main character - you are really drawn to her and hanging on her every thought.
Callahan's mother - hands down the funniest character!
Entire story has your heart - the little boy in this book makes me want to hug him.
Excellent 3rd book in the series.
I'm glad that these books have become a part of the Audible library. This is a very good series featuring a strong and intelligent female characters. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I'm hooked on series, which is why I listened to the first and have continued on even though I sometimes wince at the free use of the "N" word, references to her House Mouse staffers as "girls" and even the "driving Miss Daisy voices of the older black women--maybe I'm sensitive because I'm a 50+ year old black woman from New York City. I continue to buy this series because Callahan is a mature woman--and there are so few books featuring mature women--and the stories are compelling.
yes, I have actually
all the Callahan Garrity books Ive read so far have been wonderful; they remind me a bit of some of James Patterson's women's murder club books but with a southern accent (which I love).
that adorable southern accent
Once again, Callahan Garrity rides rough shod over family and friends to track down the bad guys while, at the same time, she manages to "clean up" The South with her little mice. Mary Kay Andrews characters may be a tad over blown and a smidge exaggerated, but as a Southerner myself, I have truly known all of the characters she has introduced. Hillary Huber does an excellent narration and brings the characters to life in a believable way. Not many people can "do" a Southern accent.
Callahan may solve crimes a little too easily and can be slightly unbelievable as a detective, so if you are a big crime and mystery buff, this might not be for you. If you want a light read, this is perfect. I chose this series after listening to the huge, five book series by Peter F Hamilton, beginning with Pandora's Star. After that, I needed something light and fun and it fit the bill.
If you noticed that I capitalized all references to The South it not because I am ignorant of proper grammar, but rather that I believe The South is the proper name of a place that lives in the hearts of all true Southerners. Mrs. John
I was excited to introduce my husband to this series, so on our way to DC, we tried to listen to this book. Holy Moses, it was so-o-o-o disappointingly boring! We tried again, on our way home, but could not do it. Another fifteen more minutes, and that was all we could do; evensped up the pace on the playback, hoping it was the narrator, but that did no good. I was truly saddened, as I've been able to get him into books in the past via Audible. Sorry, but yuck. This Callahan crushed my heart.
Not without listening to a sample first.
I'm spooked off of this series now, which is disappointing. Reading is my escape.
Of Course. I like her stories. They are easy to listen to and kind of zone out with. They are generally entertaining. This one just missed the mark.
Well...I finished it so I suppose so, but I think it felt like more of an obligation to finish the book because I bought it.
RETIRED & LOVING IT.
THIS STORY IS A LITE MYSTERY BUT WELL WORTH THE CREDIT. FULL OF LAUGHS, SO MUCH TO FIND OUT WHILE CLEANING AND SLEUTHING FOR A MURDERER OF YOUR BEST FRIEND. CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS, IS MORE THAN AN EXPRESSION, THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN IT WILL NEVER LET YOU REST TILL YOU UNDERSTAND, THE WHY.
