Publisher's summary

Mike held his son's hand and told him to "hold tight", and he could feel the little hand dig into his. But the crush got bigger, and the little hand slipped from his - and Mike felt that horrible panic, as if a wave hit them at the beach and it was washing his baby out with the tide.

The separation lasted only a few seconds, 10 at the most, but Mike would never forget the spike in his blood and the terror of those brief few moments.

Tia and Mike Baye never imagined they'd become the type of overprotective parents who spy on their kids. But their 16-year-old son, Adam, has been unusually distant lately, and after the suicide of his classmate, Spencer Hill - the latest in a string of issues at school - they can't help but worry. They install a sophisticated spy program on Adam's computer, and within days they are jolted by a message from an unknown correspondent addressed to their son: "Just stay quiet and all safe."

Meanwhile, browsing through an online memorial for Spencer put together by his classmates, Betsy Hill is struck by a photo that appears to have been taken on the night of her son's death...and he wasn't alone. She thinks it is Adam Baye standing just outside the camera's range, but when Adam goes missing, it soon becomes clear that something deep and sinister has infected their community.

For Tia and Mike Baye, the question they must answer is this: When it comes to your kids, is it possible to know too much?

Critic reviews

"Parents will find this compulsive page-turner from Edgar-winner Coben...particularly unnerving." ( Publishers Weekly)

Really really good

This is a great story. Scary at times, intriguing always. There are several disconnected story lines running throughout the book that solidly come together at the end. And no it is not forced but quite satisfying. At its core is strength of family. The good the bad and the ugly. A teenager gone astray and than missing. Not an original concept but then again what is. You can find the synopsis of this book elsewhere so I can only share my feelings and I feel it worth the cost in money most definitely time. Enjoy.

Kept me guessing!

Would you consider the audio edition of Hold Tight to be better than the print version?

Probably, the narrator was great.

What did you like best about this story?

The way everything ties in at the end.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Great voice and character interpretation.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

So you think you know your child

Any additional comments?

Great book! The plot kept me guessing and tied in nicely at the end. You will not be disappointed.

Narrator ruined it!

What made the experience of listening to Hold Tight the most enjoyable?

I usually enjoy Harlan Coben's books, but this one seemed disjointed. Perhaps if I had listened to the last 2 hours, I would have understood how the subplot related to the main story.

How could the performance have been better?

I never finished the book. The overly dramatic narration drove me crazy. He dramatized every sentence. I wondered if he was reading the words, but with no comprehension.

Did not want it to end

Would you consider the audio edition of Hold Tight to be better than the print version?

I used both. The printed version is a little easier to follow since there are so many characters and the book jumps from one to the other very often and you can miss it if your not listening carefully

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed following along and trying to figure out how everything connected. There are many characters in the book but it's not hard to form a connection with most of them. The last 3 chapters had me on the edge I couldn't wait to find out how it all ended but when it did I still wanted more. It's a great read, you will get sucked into it and it will have you thinking until the very end.
