"I loved this book."
I read other reviews before listening to this book and wondered if it could be possible for it to be as good the others as it was not long since the last one. I have to say that I was totally wrong in thinking that. It was fast paced and had many intriguing twists and turns. I would thoroughly encourage Helen Grace fans to read/ listen to this amazing book. I miss it already !
gripped from beginning to end ... go Helen!
the best in the series since the first one!
"I couldn't wait to find out what happened next..."
99% of my library in Audible are Crime Thrillers & I find it really hard to find a book that surprises me. (I drive my husband mad when we're watching a movie, as I usually reveal the murderer in the 1st quarter of the film lol). But with this book, just when I thought I knew what was happening... I didn't. And I love that. Elizabeth Bower reads this book really well and although I don't think I've heard any other books read by her, Elizabeths voice has a familiar tone which makes it easy to listen. I really enjoyed this book. I work full time but managed to somehow listen to this book in 3 days. Right... I'm off to buy the other book from this author ... enjoy!!
Brilliant twists and drama. I didnt think it would work being set in the prison, but it does.
I have really enjoyed the other books in the Helen Grace series but I feel that this one was poorly conceived and quickly written to provide another installment.
A very unrealistic plot, unbelievable ineffective characters and rather a waste of time.
Hopefully if there is another in the series, M J Aldridge will take the time to plan one of her more intricate and lengthy stories, making more of the familiar characters and in a more realistic way.
"A page turner!"
Not that original but I enjoyed it and I stayed up to hear the ending.... A good listen whilst driving or doing chores.
This was my first DI Helen Grace book,( I usually avoid series). But I was intrigued by the outline. A disgraced DI in Holloway prison. I'm very pleased I did purchase it. The story of a serial killer behind bars killing prisoners was pretty well handled and although I saw through some red herrings and thought I know "who done it", I was wrong on that score and enjoyed the surprise of finding out! I enjoyed the short sharp chapters, very James Patterson like, but a few things were jarring and detracted from the reality of the setting. The first was the lack of swearing and foul language, conversely this made the book a more enjoyable listen, but didn't add to the authenticity of the characters. Secondly the prison governor, weak n washed up she may have been, but without giving away her actions I found that hard to accept. And another couple of things which I can't state or it spoils the story if you haven't read it yet. These are minor points though in an interesting storyline. Well worth a read,.... But I won't be buying the previous book as I know that story now.
