Publisher's summary

You have good reason to be afraid....

It was a case that haunts Bobby Dodge to this day - the case that nearly killed him and changed his life forever. Now, in an underground chamber on the grounds of an abandoned Massachusetts mental hospital, the gruesome discovery of six mummified corpses resurrects his worst nightmare: the return of a killer he thought dead and buried.

There’s no place to run....

Bobby’s only lead is wrapped around a dead woman’s neck. Annabelle Granger has been in hiding for as long as she can remember. Her childhood was a blur of new cities and assumed identities. But what - or who - her family was running from, she never knew. Now, a body is unearthed from a grave, wearing a necklace bearing Annabelle’s name, and the danger is too close to escape. This time, she’s not going to run.

You know he will find you....

The new threat could be the dead psychopath’s copycat, his protégé - or something far more terrifying. Dodge knows the only way to find him is to solve the mystery of Annabelle Granger, and to do that, he must team up with his former lover, partner, and friend D. D. Warren from the Boston PD. But the trail leads back to a woman from Bobby’s past who may be every bit as dangerous as the new killer - a beautiful survivor turned avenger with an eerie link to Annabelle.

From its tense opening moments to its shocking climax, Hide is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears. Where there is no one to trust. Where there is no place left to hide.

Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are looking for a great listen that combines an excellent story with an outstanding story teller, then look no more. Ms. Reed is by far one of the best readers yet! Her talents combined with Ms. Gardner is . . . well I like to think of it, "when the clouds part and the stars are just right." You will not be disappointed with this selection because Ms. Gardner is one of the best authors of the times. Ms. Reed is, again, an outstanding story teller. Thank you both for one of the best works that I've had the pleasure to listen to in a long time!

Before you use your credit, read this!

I know you don't know me, but I need you to trust me. Hide is engaging from the start, from the introduction of the main characters to the build up to the surprising end, this book keeps a steady pace. If there were a 3-1/2 star rating, this book would get it. I didn't rate it higher because while "steady" is good, to be able to say "exhilarating" or "exciting", or "I couldn't wait to get back to this book", are what 4 and 5 stars are made of. Hide wouldn't be a waste of a credit, but just know you will get a little better than mediocre.

Gripped

I won't outline the plot as others have already done this, but I was quite gripped by this book. I recently listened to and enjoyed the "Survivors club" and if anything I think I enjoyed this novel even more. The plot certainly kept me guessing to the last - download and enjoy.

Excellent first read

This was my first Lisa Gardner, excellent. I blew through it in two days. I'll listen to some more, for sure. It was fast paced, action packed, interesting characters. It seemed to be a step above the normal thriller.

one of her best

I enjoy almost all of Lisa Gardener's books. I burned Hide to disk and listened in my car. At certain points in the book I would drive around the block or sit in my car just to keep listening. A very satisfying listen.

Almost a great story

Lisa Gardner did a great job in setting up the plot at first with the mysterious 6 wet mummies and the peculiar behavior of many of the characters. This constantly keeps the readers on the edge. But when it is time to reveal the whole story, Lisa leave it to a single character. This guy basically fill in all the blanks. Suddenly, the whole novel loses its shroud of mystery, and with it, its excitement. I was anticipating a much more of a grand plot, or at least a long hard adventure for the other characters to find out the truth. Apparently not the case here. Also, the final fight between the psychopath and the "good guys" is also disappointing with little suspense.

Fabulous

This book is great. Lisa Gardner had the ability to capture your attention and hold it from start to finish. She keeps you wondering who the villain is or if there is a villain until the end of the book. Be sure to also read "Gone" if you have not done so. It will give you more depth into the characters in "Hide. She consistantly writes great suspense.

Felt cheated by the ending

I was hooked by this book at first -- a troubled young woman who has spent most of her life in hiding, a serial killer who may be stalking her, links between this case and another one from the detective's past. But I felt so cheated by the climax -- without spoiling the ending, it was bizarre that a case this complex, with an entire task force devoted to solving it, could almost go off the rails because of shoddy police work. They blow the budget on surveillance and travel and an ill-considered sting operation, but forget such minor details as background checks on suspects and remembering to guard the killer's target? Please! Also really bugged me that at least two people knew the identity of the serial killer years earlier but one of them is still portrayed as a hero. Very frustrating ending after such a promising premise.

Seek out “Hide”!

The first line of Lisa Gardner’s “Hide” catches your attention right away. Definitely better than “It was a dark and stormy night.” No plot or character discussion here, but suffice to say that the first hour of the book after that first line hook keeps you careening along.

There are a few slower moments scattered about, but all-in-all this book is a real page turner, word listener, or a CD switcher (your choice). Much of the credit also goes to the reader, the aptly named Maggi-Meg Reed.

I’ve seen some criticism of the ending -- which may not be the book’s strongest point -- but by my standards the book hung together right through the slightly convoluted ending. Good book!

I’m going to squeak out five stars for this one.
