Publisher's summary

Hidden is the first book in Bone Secrets, the multimillion-copy bestselling series.

Eleven years ago, the Co-ed Slayer murdered nine female students on the Oregon State University campus. Lacey Campbell barely escaped his attack, but lost her best friend whose remains were never found. As the sole surviving victim, Lacey helped send the sadistic serial killer to prison for life.

Now a forensic odontologist examining teeth and bones for the state Medical Examiner, Lacey is devastated when she arrives at a crime scene and identifies the skeletal remains as her college friend’s.

The remains are discovered on the land of ex-cop Jack Harper. Sparks fly between him and Lacey, even as they realize that the prosecution’s witnesses from a decade ago are now being murdered one by one. All the evidence points to the Co-ed Slayer as the culprit—only, he’s long since dead. So who’s the new killer? And is Lacey next in line to die?

Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot combines chilling suspense and steamy romance in a gripping tale, uniting in-depth forensic knowledge with a passion for thrillers. Set in the snowy winter of Oregon, Hidden creates spine-tingling chills.

Liked the story ALOT ~ not crazy about the narrato

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes ~ anyone who loves good suspense will enjoy this book.

What other book might you compare Hidden to and why?

A Tess Gerrittsen or Karen Rose is who I think the supense most closely resembles, but heavier on the romance than in the Tess Gerrittsen. But pretty gritty deets, and lots of flashes into the killers mind like in a Karen Rose book. I love that! Give you chills! The tone of this book is pretty serious & intense, and again I'd have to compare that to a Karen Rose.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I felt she was very...stilted? Is that the right word? Like her words weren't flowing naturally, and her pauses and inflections weren't in the right places. Her voice was pleasant, and thought she did a great job diferentiating between male and female, but the flow of the story just wasn't as seamless as I thought it could have been. It goes to tell how truly good the story itself was that I stuck with even I wasn't crazy about the narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but it truly tugged my heart in several places, and I felt like with a better narrator I would proabably have reacted stronger. There heroine had truly been through hell in her life, and there were moments noone could have not ached inside for her.

Any additional comments?

Just that I'm listening to the next book in the series, Chilled, and it's a new narrator, and I'm already enjoying it so much more.

Solid debut novel

Borrowed via KU. Liked it enough to buy on Audible. This is one of those books that’s less expensive to buy the ebook & add-on the audio ($6.98 for both at the time of this review). This showed in my “recommended” because I enjoyed Robert Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite series. This has a bit more romance, but leans more toward Suspense/Mystery end of the spectrum.

I liked the fact that despite feeling several times I’d figured out “whodunnit” ~ it wasn’t until quite close to the end that it was revealed. The narrator was good, though a few times her speech was a little choppy. It got better as the book progressed. After she found her stride, she did a good job with all the voices & emotions that I’m willing to try another book she narrates.

This book is told from multiple POV’s and for the most part that was fine. I enjoyed getting know each character and the author did a good job of making them all unique. Sometimes I felt like maybe we could have heard from the killer a little less ~ but overall his “input” helped the suspense/plot.

I’m looking forward to more of the series. Especially Jack & Lacy’s novella.

Great story.

I loved this story. In my previous books, I wasn't a fan of the narrators. This narrator is awesome. Story is great too.

Great start to series. For me, the hardest of them all to stomach.

The story unfolded well, with pointers to characters who might or might not be suspicious, which keeps you guessing, keeping your interest.

I really liked these characters, all of them—and there were a few to keep track of. The first time I listened I realized I needed to keep some brief notes as new ones were introduced. It got easy after awhile but at first it was too laborious to allow me to enjoy the book.

This story had gross parts but, on the gross scale a lot of authors go to (e.g. Kay Hooper), in the medium range of grossness.

That narrator was a good and bad for me. I’d just be getting frustrated when all of the sudden she’s voice someone perfectly. Then about the time I’d be all Tammy again, out would come the best-delivered line or paragraph. For me, setting aside how well or not she hit the notes I felt the author wrote in, her voice was too high to be completely comfortable; it was in that range of high that feels loud, if you know what I mean.

Kendra Elliot does something I enjoy, which is unobtrusively weave future and past characters from other series into one another. It always gives me something to either think back on or look forward to.

Great story. Poor narration

Story was excellent. Will be diving right in to the second book of this series. However the performance was lacking.
