Publisher's Summary

With her vintage clothing store taking off, Lily Ivory is finding that life in San Francisco suits her just fine. But her ability to sense vibrations from the past, so useful in locating secondhand gems, has landed her in the middle of a new mystery....

Lily gets called away from Aunt Cora's Closet when the police need a witch's take on a strange case. Malachi Zazi was stabbed to death in his apartment, under a ladder, surrounded by the number thirteen, a broken mirror, and a black cat-superstitions that the victim, as head of a rationalist society, was devoted to discrediting. When the police identify a suspect from the Serpentarian Society, Lily is shocked to learn it's someone she knows.

But with bad luck plaguing all its members, she begins to wonder if there's more at work than mere coincidence. And while there aren't many clues from the crime scene, Lily finds evidence of dark witchcraft and a hex on her friend's doorstep. With her friend's safety at stake, Lily is determined to use magic to find the murderer before everyone's luck runs out.

What did you love best about Hexes and Hemlines?

I love the characters, so seemingly real, yet not...and the reader Xe is perfect

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Because I love the characters, I want to know what happens. For that reason, I was on the edge of my (car) seat!

I've always loved books. Even before I could read I've loved them. Fact or Fiction, I love books. I'd sooner read a book than see a movie.

Where does Hexes and Hemlines rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really love this series tremendously. I can't wait to listen to the next one. Blackwell is one of my current favorites.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Next to the protagonist Lily Ivory, I think Oscar the pig/gremlin/gargoyle is the most charming and endearing.

Which character – as performed by Xe Sands – was your favorite?

Xe has a very natural and entertaining quality of reading, and is one of the best narrators out there.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I want to rush into it as if it was one of my favorite flavors of ice cream, but another part wants to slow down and enjoy the ride.

    "Great Read"

This was one of the best in the series. Subcultures are a part of all major cultures. This book takes a more in depth look at secret societies and subcultures. It is fun, realistic, and fast paced. It's a great read. In fact, this entire series is a lot of fun. I have already bought the next book and I can't wait until book 5 comes out next year.

    "Hold the bacon."

I'm really enjoying this series, it's like my favorite blanket. Glad to have it around and it gives me a nice warm, fuzzy feeling afterwards. The more you read this series the more you get hooked. This is a nice clean series for those who are not into sex. I personally would like to see more romance added, there are plenty of candidates to choose from. I'm leaning towards Sailor, but who knows if that will happen. Lily in a way reminds me of Sookie from Charlaine Harris's series, but the story is way different though. Lily is sweet and would do anything to help a friend, which is how she gets herself into trouble. Narrator is slightly annoying, but I'm good at focusing on the story and at book three I'm getting use to her.

I once owned the bookstore A Novel Idea. I sold mysteries and cat humor. Put a cat in a mystery, and I'm likely to read it. Book Reviewer.

    "Characters successfully tackle social issues"

Lily Ivory gets called away from Aunt Cora's Closet when the police need a witch's take on a strange case. Malachi Zozi was stabbed to death in his apartment, under a ladder, surrounded by the number thirteen, a broken mirror, a house painted black, and a black cat, superstitions that the victim, as head of a rationalist society, was devoted to discrediting.

When the police identify a suspect from the Serpentarian Society, Lily is shocked to learn it's someone she knows. But with bad luck plaguing all its members, she begins to wonder if there's more at work than mere coincidence. One of the young members of another coven dies, and her two boyfriends were distraught. They both were members of a men's drumming coven with meetings held in the woods among earth creatures and foliage. Lily tries to watch from afar the meeting meant to bring the men solace, but she is asked to leave.

One of Lily's dearest friends and co-worker, Bronwyn, is a Wiccan who asks Lily to help her son-in-law who is not quite a suspect but being investigated by the police department. As soon as Bronwyn asks, she asks Lily to stop since things look ever worse. Lily feels it is her duty as a San Franciscan to continue her efforts to help everyone in peril.

There was a lot more action, a lot more intrigue, in this, the third in Juliet Blackwell's Witchcraft series. I find myself wanting to tell you about the break-in to Aunt Cora's Closet, how helpful yet stubborn Oscar, her familiar was, and so much more, but I don't want to spoil the book which you are sure to enjoy reading.

I definitely see growth in this book in Lily and other main characters plus many more secondary ones. Ms. Blackwell leaves the book with a pronouncement on who will show up in the next book. I'm so grateful I already have it here to read and listen onward! I hope they never change narrators, because I love how well Xe Sands reads these books!
