Walt Longmire Continues to be a Strong Series

I'll agree with a lot of the Craig Johnson reviews in that I likewise believe Johnson has improved over the years. Likewise, Johnson is a believer in the supernatural to some extent by weaving and ethereal spirit into his stories - more frequently in his latest books.

This one goes a little too far for my liking; however, I still recommend the book - especially for fans of Johnson and the Walt Longmire series. It's one of the better books in the series and is a can't miss for fans.

On a big picture basis; however, Johnson is not in my Top 10 favorite authors. His character development is good and his ability to put together a story worthy of a good novel, I still find that Johnson wanders too much. I find myself drifting too often due to boredom for him to be classed among my all-time favorites.

Still, I recommend this book, it's definitely above average as are most in the Walt Longmire series. I'll continue to pick out more Longmire stories along the way when I don't have any of my favorites to go through.

As usual, George Guidall is a GEM!! These types of stories are right in his wheelhouse and he nails it.

Always over too soon...

While the first book in the series will always have a special place in my heart, of the rest, this might be my favorite. I've loved them all, but I devoured this one.

I enjoyed the Walt-centric book. I have no doubt that the next book will be a full-cast wedding extravaganza or something along those lines, so I enjoyed this pause in the larger story arc.

Mystical Journey

Each of these wonderful tales is just a little different and yet all a piece of the same cloth. A magnificent quilt.

spectacular

This is a work of art. My favorite Longmire novel in the series for so many reasons. Descriptions, storyline, atmosphere, dialogue. Time with Virgil White Buffalo. Most of all the time spent in Walt's head.

BEST ONE YET

I was a little disappointed that Vic and Henry were a little scarce in this one, but the author more than made up for it with the intensity of the adventure. On to my next one....

Beautiful

I have loved each of the Walt Longmire books thoroughly and for different reasons. Early on I did not think I would love this one as much as the others, but then the boy's dreams began coming through to Walter and my doubts morphed to eagerness for the conclusion...the final resting of the boy's spirit. What I love most is the reverence with which Mr. Johnson holds and shares the Cheyenne and Crow legends and beliefs, refusing the insistent yearning most others of us have for logic and sense-making.

One of the best in the series

I so much enjoy this series of books. I began listening after watching the series on AMC and later on Netflix. As much as I enjoyed the show, the books are so much better. This one was the most enjoyable for me so far.

I've already downloaded the next in series and will start listening as soon as I post this review.

Good mystical mountain adventure.

Although it never reaches the mystical standard of Walt's earlier trip down the mountain with the old Cheyenne from an earlier book. It references that story often and has it's own moments. While I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series for new reader's it's still easy to pick up the story with any book of the series. But, you miss a lot of character development and backstory. However, this is not the book I would recommend if you haven't read Longmire or only know the overly melodramatic but still entertaining TV series. This book suffers from not having the Absaroka County characters interplay. The back and forth of Walt,Vic,Ruby and Henry along with the rural Wyoming characters is a weakness of this story. Still the action is fast moving and George Guidall is the voice of Walt Longmire.
