Most kids who disappear reappear.
But there are girls who vanish and never come back, girls whose clean white bones are dug up years later in vacant lots and distant forests. Carlotta Carlyle's latest case, investigating the disappearance of her adopted little sister Paolina, could change her life forever.
Did Paolina run away, or was she kidnapped? How involved is Paolina's estranged father, a notorious Colombian drug lord? Carlotta's frantic search takes her from the underbelly of Boston to the streets of Miami, and then finally to the mountains of Colombia, the heart of the world.

"Fast-paced....Taut, exciting prose....An emotionally cliff-hanging ending that will leave readers waiting impatiently for the 12th installment of Carlotta's exploits." (Publishers Weekly)
"Linda Barnes has for long been one of the most skilled and artful writers of the crime novel. With Heart of the World she proves it and takes it up to a new level. This is her best." (Michael Connelly)
I'm a long time fan of the Carlotta Carlyle series and love her wit and spunk. This was a big disapointment, due primarily to the narrator. Carlotta has a lot of spanish speaking people in her life, but she herself is not hispanic. The reader was also not a part of the story, she was merely a reader. The previous Carlotta stories I have listened to were read by C.J. Critt, who became Carlotta. I would not listen to another book read by this narrator!
It was an OK but not great listen. If the charachter's name were shortened to Paul or Paula the running time would have been reduced by at least an hour. Paolina is repeated (bleated) so many times it gets long and tiresome.
