Publisher's summary

The #1 bestselling phenomenon continues in the eighth Stephanie Plum novel. The stakes get higher, the crimes get nastier, the chases get faster, and the men get hotter.

This time Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger. Lula, Valerie, and Grandma Mazur are strapped in for the ride of their lives. Stephanie is hired to find a missing child. But things aren't always as they seem and Stephanie must determine if she's working for the right side of the law. Plus, there's the Morelli question: can a Jersey girl keep her head on straight when more than just bullets are aimed for her heart? And with the Plum and Morelli relationship looking rocky, is it time for Ranger to move in for the kill? Janet Evanovich's latest thriller proves that Hard Eight will never be enough.

Fantastic Narrator

I started this series with Lorelei King as narrator, so she is the voice of Stephanie for me. I was reading other reviews that liked CJ Critt better so I listened to a sample of the earlier books in the series. I thought CJ sounded like she was breathing very loudly between sentences (maybe it was the quality of the sample?) and Ranger sounded like a street thug. Lorelei makes Ranger sound sexier... like he's supposed to be. I guess it's just a matter of which narrator you get used to... but I would say don't write off Lorelei King because of other reviews...give her a chance. She's one of my favorites!

...and I love all the Janet Evanovich novels...even if they are predictable and have similar plots. They are still fun and make me laugh. Gotta love Lula!

Love the book, but...

Not a fan of how Lorelei King portrayed Ranger. Love the book though. Laughed out loud more than a few times.

Who is this....

I cannot even listen to this one because the reader is so not the character. Stephanie Plumb is a street person she is from Jersey she's not some prim and proper

this 1 clarifies WHY Ranger is clearly " the one"

obviously Lorelei King rules as narrator of all things Evanovich.
after carefully reading and listening to all if the Plums several times over?
I must confide that despite Morellis many talents, Ranger is where Stephanie belongs.
Ranger adores her as she is. Ranger is direct. He allows her independence to be and become who she chooses. He offers passion, adventure, comfort, understanding, honesty in ways many cannot even comprehend.
the price? forfeit her Burg status quo expectations of home and husband. Commit to being her own person. Dare to enjoy Ranger without ownership or keeping a " balance due either way". Morelli is All That anyone could dream of but the Burg style family He & Stephanie are expected to produce? Not possible considering who each of them really is. Not possible once Stephanie knows the fire of loving Ranger. IF she could let go of the security she craves- of the normalcy of Burg marriage- then she could accept Ranger on his terms and experience the many What ifs? That could grow from each of them being something amazing with and without the other. Love without conventional restrictions. Love with true caring for the others life and growth.
what do you think , Mrs Evanovich? I cannot begin to know your world of Plum! You have carried us all along fir so many years, thank you.

Bad impressions of people of color

I am a huge fan of Janet, Evanovich, and Lorelei King. However, as I am going back through and listening to books that I have read before and listened to before I have feedback. The impressions of Ranger and Lula leave a lot to be desired. I absolutely hate them as a matter of fact. Also, Valerie and clown Aren’t much better. As an author, I am grateful for the skill and ability that Janet has. There are some parts that are quite vulgar, and I don’t remember it being this way. I possibly could be a fuddy-duddy now. Also, I hope that they think about re-recording these earlier books, because the music that plays in the middle of the story is absolutely awful.it sounds like the music in pornos. Aside from that the storyline is great, and I truly enjoy the opportunity to revisit some of my favorites.
