Publisher's summary

At a Hallowe'en party, Joyce - a hostile thirteen-year-old - boasts that she once witnessed a murder. When no one believes her, she storms off home. But within hours her body is found, still in the house, drowned in an apple-bobbing tub.

That night, Hercule Poirot is called in to find the "evil presence". But first he must establish whether he is looking for a murderer or a double murderer.

A great Mystery

This hit me just right in that it had lots of characters, lots of wrong turns and a good solid ending. It was a great Poirot. I enjoyed the descriptions, and the feel of this book. It is now one of my favourite Poirots.

great audio, great story!

I love when Hugh Fraser reads. His accents of the different regions of Britain are fantastic and add depth to the story and characters.

Good but slow.

It was a good book don't get me wrong but it was very slow to develop. This may just be the Christie style, but at times I was bored. However, I was surprised by the end and did enjoy trying to follow the detectives thought pattern and predict the killer. Definitely a very in depth and complicated story which deserves props. And its Christie.

Not Christie’s best

Let me first preface this review by saying the narration of Hugh Fraser is superb as it always is. That being said, this particular story is painfully repetitive, by that I mean at first I actually thought that I had accidentally hit the back button. Then I began to notice the exact same phrases are repeated again and again… and AGAIN by multiple characters. Either Christie’s mind was not quite in the right space at the time she wrote this or her editor was awful or both. I have listened to maybe 20 Agatha Christie novels and that has never been an issue before. I’m still glad to have listened to it before the film came out so I can compare the stories and in this case the movie may actually be better than the book.

Love this story

One of my favorite Agatha Christie stories. It is fun, a good mystery and has atmosphere! Cuddle up with this around October and let Hugh Fraser take you away.

A party

The plot was interesting and flowed along at a good pace. The narrator kept your interest with different tones for the characters.

One of My Top Agatha Christie Mysteries!

I’ve read them all…most of them numerous times. Now I’m listening to them all, and I’m again of the opinion that there is no more fun to be found in a Christie mystery than when Ariadne Oliver and Hercule Poirot team up.

Halloween. A mystery with several layers. Beloved friends who grumble hilariously about each other’s eccentricities. Bottom line: Buy this book! You will not be disappointed, and it will likely become an annual listen around the end of each October!

What a great read for the Halloween season.

What a lovely adventure of Mr. Poirot. Perfect for one of those fall evenings where the darkness comes a little too quickly. A tale that starts off as a thread and the more you pull and pull the deeper and more interesting than yet. If you like a great mystery and a great read this one is for you.
