Publisher's summary

A cold-blooded kidnapper has been playing a twisted game with a terrified Minnesota town. Now a respected member of the community stands accused of a startling act of evil. But when a second boy disappears, a frightened public demands to know: Have the police caught the wrong man? Is the nightmare continuing...or just beginning?

Prosecutor Ellen North believes she’s building a case against a guilty man - and that he has an accomplice in the shadows. As she prepares for the trial of her career, Ellen suddenly finds herself swept into a cruel contest of twisted wits, a dark game of life and death...with an evil mind as guilty as sin.

I loved the story!

What a great story! It had everything… suspense, action and love. It took a little bit to get used to the narrator, but I had no problem following after the first few chapters.

Terrible

I have listened to almost all of Tami Hoag's books and I love her but this was absolutely the worst book she has ever written. Brooks is unlikable and the main character is stupid. She tells Brooks she hates him countlessly always right before jumping in bed with him. And as a lawyer she acts more like a 6 year old than a professional attorney. Do not listen to this book. It's a complete waste of time.

Best one by far!

By far one of her best works! Narration was excellent and the story line was gripping.

Great story.

The only bad thing was the mispronounced names of cities and places in the book. When you are doing something that takes place in an area you are not familiar with you should do a little research as to how to say the names properly. I have run into this in other titles as well.

Somewhat Dated

The male love interest was a little predatory for now. Story 30 years old so VCRs and some topical references are also dated.

Guilty as sin

I really enjoy Tami Hoag’s books my only complaint is her use of God’s name over and over. I can handle swearing but to continue using God‘s name in vain just bothers me. If it bothers you to look somewhere else interesting book though.

Stuck to the formula

This book, as was the prequel, was very formulaic. In spite of that, the writing is good. The suspense is good. These two are some of the earlier books by this writer. I have read many of her books, and the early promise of a maturing writer comes to fruition in her more recent books.
