Publisher's summary

In the most extraordinary journey Ann Rule has ever undertaken, America's master of true crime has spent more than two decades researching the story of the Green River Killer, who murdered more than 49 young women.

Green River, Running Red is a harrowing account of a modern monster, a killer who walked among us undetected. It is also the story of his quarry - of who these young women were and who they might have become. A chilling look at the darkest side of human nature, this is the most important and most personal audiobook of Ann Rule's long career.

great read

the story seemed a little choppy at first but was brought together very well. I personally had a difficult time with the narrarators voice. I'd catch myself tuning her out and had to rewind a few time. but over a great story.

Interesting

What trash ridgeway was.
Ann Rule is the best crime writer.
Very good account of atrocity of a human.

Good reporting, could have used an edit

The reporting is thorough m, but I think it could have been a ton shorter; also, I don’t know if a highbrow New England- meets British accent is right for a murder story from Oregon.

very well written

didn't romanticise the crimes, the author focused on the victims, who are often forgotten in "true crime" stories.
Ann Rule is an amazing author.

Full of Herself

The author was so cocky and constantly referred to herself trying to make the story about her and not the victims.

A classic but obviously dated

This is my second listen of Green River Running Red, and I know I can rely on Anne Rule if I want a good true crime serial killer book that’s insanely researched. It’s a classic but this time around I find myself getting really bummed and rolling my eyes about the demonizing of sex work, fawning over the police and weird opinions of “radical feminist types.” A lot of people have complained about the narrator, but I think she does a great job. She sounds like an out of touch retired cop so it felt like Anne was reading to me.
All in all a solid true crime book but definitely to be read with a grain of salt.

Great Narrator. Interesting Subject Matter

Ann Rule is undoubtedly the progenitor of an improbably successful genre. Her personal proximity to Bundy and Ridgeway is remarkable.

Brutally magnificent

This book goes into extreme details of each of Gary ridgeways victims. The 19 hours goes by in a flash.

Boring monotone reader

The reader seems very bored. Was hard to follow and my mind kept drifting to anything but the story

Excellent story and narration

Anne Rule tells the stories of several of the young women who were removed from this world by the Green river monster before they had a chance to better their circumstances. Young people believe they're invincible and prositutes are no different. Gary Ridgeway deprived them of the opportunity to grow up and find other ways to make a living. I would like to say that I hope he can/does read the book, but I'm not sure it would matter at all. How could it matter to someone with no soul?

As a side, I'll look for more books narrated by Barbara Caruso.Great vocal pitch and intonation that doesn't need exaggeration to elicit our sympathy.
