Publisher's summary

Twenty-something Harper Connelly has a gift. After being struck by lighting as a child, she discovered an eerie ability to locate the deceased.

In Memphis, skeptical Professor Nunley wants her to demonstrate her skill at an ancient cemetery. There, Harper stands atop a grave and says there are two bodies entombed: one centuries old, but the other, a young girl named Tabitha.

Her assertion holds water. Tabitha has been missing for two years - and now the police are suspicious of Harper. So with her loyal stepbrother, Tolliver, Harper begins to amass clues that will solve the case.

a different premise

she was struck by lightning and now can find dead people and know how they died. Occasionally she finds they have been murdered and must face a primarily disbelieving world to help those victims.

Can't wait for more!

I'm a big Sookie fan (however, am not a fan of the HBO series True Blood) so when I found this series in the list of books from Harris, I had to give it a try. So glad I did! Really enjoyed these books and can't wait for more! Read them in order, pretty important.

Enjoyed the Second in the Series

We bought this one because, though we liked the first it had some problems in the storyline, but not enough. This was suspenseful -- more so than the first -- and there were twists and turns. Our biggest criticism is her ending. She wraps a story up like she has only so many characters left. We like her enough to buy another.

The narrator sounds like what I think Harper would sound like -- sometimes I am not fond of her other characters but she is a decent narrator.

Great plot!

This is the second book in the series that I have listened to. I have really enjoyed learning a little bit about people struck by lightning And the many ways the experience manifests itself.
The narration was wonderful and the plot was very creative.

Wish the author was still writing these

Ever since Harper Connelly was struck by lightening, walking over a grave produces more than a creepy feeling. She can feel the dead, knows how they died. With her brother, Tolliver, at her side, they travel the U.S. using Harper's peculiar talent to find bodies. While in Mobile Alabama doing a demonstration for a college class, Harper finds a body she'd failed to find in Nashville, buried inside an older grave. A little girl named Tabitha. Coincidence. It had to be. But the coincidences start lining up and when the professor who hired Harper for the demonstration is the next body to occupy that hole, Harper and Tolliver are forced into detective mode. I love that Manfred made an appearance in this story. I've read the Midnight Texas series and can't wait for more of both these. Fingers crossed, as the author hasn't added any for some time. And isn't a Harper/Tolliver thing just destiny? I think so.

Pretty solid read

Definitely brought me back to the Sookie Stackhouse books I had fun this was an exciting read and kept me entertained my only complaint was that whoever edited the audiobook should’ve done a better job because there is a lot of clips that are not cut properly

fun

I enjoyed this story. The protagonist is unusual with her gift--it is such a novel premise. It is not extremely suspenseful but it does keep you guessing for a good portion of the novel and the characters are interesting. As an aside, it does illuminate what ANY individual faces from the general population when they are perceived as "different"--be it her gift or something more common place.
