Publisher's summary

Grave Sight draws listeners into the intriguing world of Harper Connelly, a woman with a unique gift: she can "see" the deceased and how they died.

A teenage girl from a small Ozarks town is missing and feared dead. Hired by local police, Harper locates the girl's body in a nearby forest. But there's more than one corpse in those woods, and the second one raises questions no one wants to ask. Soon Harper and her stepbrother/assistant, Tolliver, are under suspicion. All they want is to get out of town, but they will have to clear their reputations first.

Charlaine Harris writes best-selling mysteries described by Booklist as "gripping and spicy", and praised by the Denver Post for their "goofy charm".

Critic reviews

"A strong debut that will have readers dying for more." (Booklist)
"Harris delivers a knuckle-gnawing tale populated with well-developed, albeit edgy characters. A nifty puzzle toward the end will challenge the most jaded mystery buffs." (Publishers Weekly)

Fine until the last couple hours of story.

I accidentally listened to the 2nd book in the series first, and quite enjoyed it. I thought I would enjoy this first one just as much. That unfortunately wasn't the case towards the latter half of this book. I struggled to listen to the last couple of hours due to my infinitely growing frustration with the main character's inability to figure out something that seemed rather obvious to me. Hopefully books 3 and 4 won't drag on like this story did. I really do love listening to this narrator, though!

Fun summer listen.

Fun summer listen. Only a little perturbed by the way the narrator said "Yes" ;)

Another good series from C.H,

I’m a big Charlaine Harris fan, Sookie, Aurora, Midnight. I’ve since learned that the first of the series can be a little slow going to introduce the characters, settings and what not, but it’s always worth it to get into the rest of the story. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the narration, but I’m excited to continue the series.

Interesting story premise, average "mystery"

What a nice surprise. I have read Harris' Sookie series and thought this might be along the same lines. It kinda is, but it has a darker feel to it than Sookie. I guess one "knows" that Harper will survive, but... every scene that came up I wondered if she was going to get hurt, or arrested, or... something.

There is a lot of character development, but it was slipped right into the story without making you feel like you were getting a time-out to learn something.

I never try to figure out a plot before the end so while I was not really surprised at who the bad guy was, I spent the book not fully convinced it wasn't Harper's boyfriend all along. Though I will admit that Harper could have figured it out just a bit faster than she did... but anyway... I'll certainly read the rest of this series.

The narration is well done, but the narrator's voice is too mature for what you'd think Harper should sound like.

Depressing

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The fact that I bought it.

Any additional comments?

Ok, here is the deal. I bought book 2 in this series and then realized I got the wrong one. So.. I bought book 1 and started there. After the first book I wasn't sure what to think. The topic was interesting, the characters had redeeming points but the execution was very flawed. I have a hard time with authors who can't keep their facts straight.

For crying out loud! Buy a pack of 3x5 cards and write a physical description of the character on the card. From then on out refer to the card when the character says "it matches my ____ eyes." And don't allow their hair to grow 4 inches in a mere 2 weeks.

This part really bugged me.

Next, if a character has such a depressing life, why do I want to live it with them? I read to enjoy, to conquer the world, to feel like the good guy always wins. After listening to book one I thought I would give two a chance. The author improves, a tiny bit, but just not enough to drag me through her depressing and muddy life for another 6-8 hours.

I won't waste another credit.

Great Charlaine Harris Series

I love this new series by Ms. Harris! The narrator does an excellent job keeping up with a number of male and female characters. The twists and turns kept me guessing who killed who until the very end.

One of the most enjoyable books I have ever listened to, a fun storyline and the performer was great with distinguishing voices and emotions.
