Something is stirring up angry apparitions all over town. Something that can break all the laws of supernatural physics. Something that doesnt like Harry. His closest friends are being targeted. males writing females.

I describe this to friends as 'similar to the mercy Thompson series' . Jim Butcher can be..a bit too boobily sometimes. but def worth the read.

Outstanding

Loved every second it! I'm starting the next book right away. Michael is one of my new favorite characters, and the story had me cheering like a maniac at times, and feeling like I'd had my gut punched in others. The pacing, the dialogue, the combat, the tension, the romance, Jim Butcher really blew it out of the water with this one!

A fun read

I like these books. They're easily digestible, and a nice form of entertainment. They're well written, engaging, and clever, without being superfluous or taking themselves too seriously. I like the humor interspersed throughout. The main protagonist, wizard Harry Dresden, is a relatable, down to earth character that I wouldn't mind having as a neighbor. The element of the supernatural and magic, while being integral to the main plot lines, isn't overplayed and doesn't delve too deeply into the dark recesses of the craft. It never feels uncomfortable or overtly evil.

Grave Peril, Jim Butcher's third novel of The Dresden Files, takes place roughly one year after Fool Moon, the second book in the series. In this story, Harry finds himself battling the vampiress Bianca, and also the ghost of a demon simply referred to as "The Nightmare". We are introduced to a few new characters, one of them being Michael, a Templar Knight who wields a sword named Amoracchius, to assist Harry in waging war against the evil-doers of the Nevernever. Harry also finds an unexpected ally in Thomas, a vampire of the White Court.

This story also explores the relationship Harry has with Susan, a reporter for a magazine centered around the supernatural called The Arcane. It's a nice addition to the evolution and maturation of the characters, and plays well with the intertwining of other plot lines that add to the complexity and likeability of Harry's well-rounded personality.

All-in-all, after finishing this third installment, I can say that the author has proven himself to me, and I'm hooked. Highly recommended for anyone who likes a rambunctious page-turner that can be devoured at will, leaving the reader pleasantly satisfied in the end.

This is the book where this series takes off

Book 3 is the first truly excellent book in the series. The number of characters starts to increase as you find out so much more about this world if Dresden.

The uniqueness of this series takes root here. Books 1 & 2 are decent but you can tell Butcher was new and learning.

You need to read the first two books to know what's going on and that's not a bad thing. Just the level of story telling from now on takes on a whole new level of goodness.

Harry vs. the Red Council

I'm not a fan of vampire stories, but this one was different enough that I enjoyed it anyway. It's hard not to like a good Dresden File.
