Publisher's summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden has had a rough couple of weeks. As the only openly practicing professional wizard in the Chicago area, he has squared off against a multitude of supernatural bad guys. Harry has won the day against demons, poltergeists, sorcerers, trolls, vampires, werewolves, and even an evil faerie godmother. You might think nothing could spook him. You would be wrong.

Something is stirring up angry apparitions all over town. Something that can break all the laws of supernatural physics. Something that doesnt like Harry. His closest friends are being targeted. The net is closing in. Harry must find a solution soon or find this is one Nightmare from which he will never waken.

This is when the books really get good.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. great pacing, many plot threads from book 1 come together. Very exciting

What did you like best about this story?

Harrys refusal to back down in the face of evil.

What does James Marsters bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

"Spike" does a great job reading. perfect naration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Wizards Vs Vampires!

Any additional comments?

Read the first book before this one, but do not make up your mind about the series until you have read this book. It takes off on book 3 and never stops being great.

The rumors are true, it gets better

It has been a year since I finished the second book and it had been another six months or so since I finished the first. I just wasn’t sold on the story, but everyone says to keep pushing through because the story gets better.

Well... I found myself with an extra credit and at a loss for what to read. I gave book three a try and I’m glad I did. This book is significantly better than the first two in the series.

It suffers a bit (in my opinion) from having too many endings. More than a few times I thought, “Oh it’s done?” No it’s not done. But it’s not a big deal.

Great book.

a major turning point for dresden

this book represents the beginning for the dresden series as far as im concerned. i liked book 1, book 2 had some issues, but book 3 is a absolute win across the board. i love these characters and the inclusion of some of the new ones are amazing. without spoilers the background stories start coming together. i am so happy with these books and being able to listen to them is a great way to go through them again.

A successful mystery.

This has a successful mystery, a harrowing tale, and an ending that I will surely be back for. Read this book and then come find me, you'll need someone to discuss it with!

the word finally had a plot

the previous 2 books were very self contained. this one has the same kinda dresden action we all love, but the world now has a plot, not just Harry, which makes this book a real jumping off of the series

What a great series!

I am thoroughly enjoying this series of books.
It has been a long time since I have found an author that I have enjoyed so much.
I am now up to book 8 in the series and am still greedy for more.
Jim Butcher's characters come to life due to the clever narration of James Marsters.
The characters pop up time and time again throughout the series and come through as interesting and well rounded. Quite like meeting old friends when each of them come back onto the scene.
Jim Butcher does not overdo the explanations of what happens in previous books which very much make the stories flow on with very little repetition.
I hope he continues with this series as I know once I reach book 12 I will be waiting impatiently for the next installment.
