Publisher's summary

The tough neighborhood of Dorchester is no place for the innocent or the weak. A territory defined by hard heads and even harder luck, its streets are littered with the detritus of broken families, hearts, dreams. Now, one of its youngest is missing. Private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro don't want the case. But after pleas from the child's aunt, they open an investigation that will ultimately risk everything - their relationship, their sanity, and even their lives - to find a little girl-lost.

A Literary Thriller

Any additional comments?

I really liked this book and could not stop listening. Lehane writes genre fiction like fine literature (as does James Lee Burke, although their styles are completely different).Lehane's plots get complex and take some concentration in the last third, but they are always excellent. Great narrator as well.

Great, but a tough story.

This was a fantastic story. Very difficult, especially the ending, really leaves you thinking what the "right choice is."

The best Gennaro novel

Would you listen to Gone, Baby, Gone again? Why?

Yes - I think there are some clues in the narrative that I could have picked up on second listen

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes - many twists and turns

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great job of characterization of the different personalities

Any additional comments?

I do not like the Gennaro novels. I like Lehane very much - but find the Gennaro novels silly. This is a great action/crime novel that just happens to have them in it. Also, Lehane doesn't write women all that well.

Wow

All the books in this series are great but this one takes it to a new level! Gone baby gone is maybe his greatest one so far and a powerful statement to society.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

About the middle 1/3 of the book is just atmosphere filler. It could easily be deleted

Best in the series yet!

This entry into the Kenzie and Gennaro series had me hooked on every word. it's really the best in the series yet. just when I thought I figured out the mystery, it turns everything on its head and had me back at square one. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Lehane and Davis = Sheer Brilliance...!!!

Dennis Lehane's skill as a writer escapes my ability to offer or even conjure adequate praise. characters, plot, geography, Romance, humor, social/ cultural comment, pathos and Terror all flood your senses like an Omni Theater movie. mr. Davis narration is the perfect partnership For Lehane's pen, with all voicings consistent, clear and masterful... never overdone even at the height of emotion. Spoiler Alerrt:
the subject matter of this story harbors some rather dark and disturbing depictions, all too familiar for many of us. at times I thought might not be able to continue however the great good taste of the author prevailed and I was rewarded by a quite satisfying yet ironic finale...!!! 👍👍👍
