Publisher's summary

In a time when technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there's only one place to hide a crime of passion - in the heart.

The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects - including her own lover, Roarke.

As a woman, Eve was compelled to trust the man who shared her bed. But as a cop, it was her job to follow every lead...to investigate every scandalous rumor...to explore every secret passion, no matter how dark. Or how dangerous.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Susan Ericksen Is The Best!

I really enjoyed this book-even better than the first book in the series. Susan Ericksen does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life!

Five stars x3

The author, narrator, and storyline all get five stars. This series is the best overall in my opinion. If you are a fan of Dallas, Lr. Eve, and Rourke; do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the audible version. Warning: May be habit-forming!

Suspenseful, Romantic, & Well Narrated

I have a lot of these books to download now and I am looking forward to downloading them all. The first one I didn't like so much and I suppose it was because I had to get acclamated to the character,Eve, the policewoman. In the first book she was so "hard" and emotionally inaccessible, cold and hard. I couldn't understand how any man especially a rich, fine, one could love someone like this character. Now as I listened to book 2, her character begins to become tender, open even loving to her mate. This is because her character with experience and understanding from her georgeous boyfriend has grown.

And again Susan Ericksen is one of the best narrators I've listened to. She is superb!

More enjoyable characters

Science fiction police procedural mature
Another serial killer hunt for LT Eve Dallas and Captain Feeney to catch and deliver to the court. The novel opens with the brutal murder of the top city prosecutor. Cicely Towers, Because the initial victim is a public servant, emotions run high, especially as Towers is well known to Eve's boss, Commander Whitney. The villain uses his skills to tap into police communications and to confuse Eve's progress with critical press releases. Compounding the issue is the family secrets and lies Eve encounters, straining relationships with her boss and with Roarke's business partners.
Well into the story, an important supporting character, Officer Peabody, makes her debut. Another recurring character is Chief Tibble, who replaces the corrupt Chief Simpson as head of NYPSD (New York Police & Security Department). Nadine Furst, briefly introduced in the first novel, has a more critical role in this story, and she is shown to be ambitious reporter who is also caring and ethical. In the previous story, Eve was badly beaten by one of the killers before getting the upper hand. In this story, both Eve and Roarke end up fighting for their lives after rescuing Nadine, with both the worse for wear. .
Susan Ericksen narrates and does a fine job. Her version of Mavis Freestone speaking something similar to a Valley girl is startling, but is acceptable.
The big impediment to acquiring the series is that big publishing houses charge higher than normal prices for both the ebooks and audiobooks. If you have the budget, a fine series to add to your library.
