Publisher's summary

There are those who walk among us who are no longer alive, but not yet crossed over. They seek retribution…vengeance…to warn. Among the living, few intuit their presence.

Katie MacDonald is one who can.

As she’s drawn deeper and deeper into a gruesome years-old murder, whispered warnings from a spectral friend become more and more insistent. But Katie must uncover the truth: could David Beckett really be guilty of his fiancée’s murder?

Worse – the body count’s rising on the Island of Bones, and the dead seem to be reenacting some macabre tableaux from history. The danger is increasing by the moment – especially as Katie finds herself irresistibly drawn to David, who may be responsible for more than just one killing.

She can see Ghosts!

I quite enjoyed reading this book. I think the author did a great job in developing the relationships of people who have known each other since childhood. Then, they were torn apart by a gruesome murder that took place ten years prior to the start of this book. Now, they come together and do not know who can, or cannot, be trusted. The narrator does a great job and I am very glad I had a chance to read/listen to this book.

I did laugh out loud several times while reading this book. When you have a long dead pirate...excuse me "privateer" for a ghost who is coming into his own power...saying rude things about others and scaring them as well, it makes for a lot of fun and humor admist the mystery. That sort of thing makes me very happy when I read a story.

I will also say that I had no idea what Fantasy Fest was until I read this book...if it truly exists, it is interesting, but not my cup of tea. However, I do enjoy books that allow me to experience things like this. Would I like to visit Key West based on this story? YES....just not during Fantasy Fest - LOL!

I will mention that I read the reviews of other listeners before I wrote this review. While a couple were positive, some were also negative. I, personally, was pleased and have listened to the book several times now. I do recommend the book and hope that you will give the series a try.

Don't bother

The concept behind this book is great. It is a murder mystery with ghosts set in Key West. Unfortunately, this story is boring and executed poorly. The author attempts deductive reasoning but forgets that some premises are needed to draw valid and parsimonious conclusions. Many of the characters in this book make huge leaps in logic again and again and never bother finding support for their assumptions. This creates a book that is almost all dialogue and no action.

A Light Mystery

This story picks up ten years after a murder has taken place. Katie our heroine is set to buy a wax museum when one of the principal owners decided to come home and throw a monkey wrench into the plans by not agreeing to the sale. After all it is the place where David’s girlfriend’s body was found ten years ago. Katie is devastated by his decision; she also is the younger sister of one of David’s friend Sean, and she sees ghosts.
David has decided to try to solve the mystery of who killed his girlfriend ten years ago. The killer, has decided to set his sights on Katie because he senses David’s interest in her, and the killer hates David because of an ancient wrong done to his ancestor by David’s ancestor.
The story bogs down a bit, but the setting was set in Key West, which is full of history and kept the story interesting. The story was not as fleshed out as it could have been, it was rather shallow, so I am thinking it must have been one of Ms. Grahamn’s earlier works. It was an easy listen, not hearth pounding, just a formulaic mystery.

Pleasantly surprised

I have never heard/read heather graham. I am from florida and was pleasantly surprised this whole story is based in key west. It is a combo of romance, history and murder mystery. I liked it!

Don't waste your time or money

The best way to describe this author is juvenile. I am not sure if the writing is so bad or a combination of the writing and the narrator. They both should be doing children's books.

If you are going to try to add romance with suspense it would be a good idea not to screw it up. I have never read an author that could not write a love seen. The plot is slow and predictable. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and downloaded all three of the trilogy. It only gets worse. The only saving grace to the entire disappointment was the character called Bartholomew.

Smutty.

I thought I was really going to enjoy this series and would have if it wasn't for all the sex scenes. It was as though the author was vacillating between writing porn and a mystery novel. A real pity, it could have been a good series.

Very Entertaining Worth a second listen

I have not enjoyed an audiobook as much as I do this one in recent history. The story captures your attention and keeps you wanting to listen til the end. Although I had it figured out about halfway through I still found the story teller engaging. This is my first story from Heather Graham and look forward to more from this author.

Thoroughly Enjoyed Ghost Shadow, Book 1

The story is well written and Angela Dawe did a great job narrating. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the history. I enjoyed all of the characters and hope there is a ghost of a chance that Bartholomew tags along with Katie into the next book!
