Publisher's Summary

Haunted by his wife and son's brutal abduction and murder, ex-soldier Will Jaeger runs to the ends of the Earth to recover and to hide. But even there he is found and compelled to undertake one last mission and to confront a savage past he can barely even remember.

Jaeger agrees to lead an expedition into the Mountains of the Gods in the remote Amazon jungle. At the dark heart of this real-life Lost World lies a mystery WWII warplane, one that harbours a secret so explosive its very discovery may tear the world asunder. Terrifying forces are hell-bent on keeping the warplane forever hidden. Unwittingly, Will Jaeger is going in against them.

But as Jaeger joins a team of former elite warriors - including ice-cool Russian operator Irina Narov - he senses that the air wreck also harbours the answer he so longs to uncover: the identity of his wife and son's murderers. Hair-raising adventure, extreme survival quest and a shocking mystery reaching back into the horrors of Nazi Germany.

"What a Fantastic Book - The good thing is that it's just the First installment"

I mostly listen to Non Fiction because so much of the Fiction writing these days seems to be so formulaic or just not to be credible. I've previously read a couple of Bears' books and enjoyed them, particularly his first when he climbed Everest, so I thought I would give Ghost Flight a go.
The writing is descriptive and absorbing and the chapters just role by.
The narration is simply First Class!
You would think that after 12 or 13 hours it would be time to move on to something new, but not a bit of it.
Bear when's the next one coming out?
If your looking for a Really good Read/Listen then I would definitely recommend Ghost Flight😀

    "Cheesy but great"

This books uses just about every cliche you can imagine and then some. However I can't deny that it was great fun and I can't wait for the sequel.
The narrator was excellent with a truly great range of accents and character.
If you are after a really easy listen / read that doesn't take too much effort but still keeps you interested then this is the book for you.

    "Too many inaccuracies"

Liked the fast pace but there are too many plot errors. For example when they are in the special decontamination suits in the plane the cameraman vomits and it can be heard splashing on the floor. If you are in the suit with the helmet and respirator that ain't going to happen!

I also didn't like the way they describe certain nasties like the snake and the piranha etc etc and low and behold five minutes later they appear in the plot.

An exciting storyline but too many errors.

    "Far too detailed"

The opening scene was excellent but 17 chapters in and it only just started to begin (skipped several to try to get to the story).

It's just far too detailed, "he stepped down hard on the turf, the green leaves of the grass folding over under his heavy brown boot, ants scattered in every direction, a lady bird tried to take off but a moment too late as it felt the weight of the boot squeeze it's eyes from it sockets. Meanwhile he left boot swung through the air, flicking the surface of the grass before it too sent ants scattering... Etc."

Irrelevant stuff that took too long to describe. Shame because the beach scene at the start is excellent.

    Any additional comments?

It doesn't happen often but when it does you love it; a book ends and you ask "where's the next page?", "what happens next?" because you want more. This purchase was made on the strength of the existing reviews and a looming 10 hour train journey. Although I was dubious about fiction from Bear Grylls (fiction? from Man vs Wild? really?) the verdict is 5 stars all round. It's an absorbing, action packed adventure with well drawn main characters and great locations. The author creates a great sense of place, whether it's Africa, the rainforest or homely Wiltshire, something that's often missing from books of this genre. The narration by Rupert Degas is superb and brings added life to every character. His utterance of "Yo, Amazon dwellers!" made me laugh out loud. I can't wait for the sequel, there are so many questions to be answered. But at the same time, I hope its creation is not rushed as I want the sequel to be as fresh, vibrant and engaging as Ghost Flight.

    "A Must Read...."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a book worth listening to. From the start the listener is intrigued by the introduction to the main character, Will Jaeger. The development of Jaegers character is equally spaced throughout as the plot emerges, providing poignant snippets into his past .

What other book might you compare Ghost Flight to, and why?

You could compare this to other Special forces authors work, but the main difference to me was the plot. A refreshing change from the criminal element, veering more towards an mix of Jack Reacher and Indiana Jones! The descriptive nature also set this aside from similar genre.

Have you listened to any of Rupert Degas’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Although I have not listened to any other narrative by Rupert Degas, I thought this stood almost the best I've listened to in terms of believability and accent.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book did involve me emotionally, mainly in not wanting to put it down

    Any additional comments?

    Well done Bear, more please!

"A fantastic romo through the jungle."

Who would have thought that Bear Grylls had this kind of talent? This adventure thriller had me hooked. The narration is one of the best I have ever listened to and added immensely to the enjoyment of the story. Be warned though a frustrating cliff hanger ending grrr

    "Incredible story and characters"

The way Bear builds the characters is wonderful. The plot is strong and the story captivating. The whole book is multi dimensional - couldn't stop listening. Can't wait for the next instalment.
