Publisher's summary

Fun House is the latest novel in the award-winning John Ceepak mystery series, set on the Jersey Shore.

What if a reality TV show like Jersey Shore set up production in the fictional seaside resort Sea Haven? What if hitting the gym, tanning, and doing a little laundry aren't the only things the contestants get into? By-the-book officer John Ceepak and his wisecracking young partner, Danny Boyle, have to babysit the buff and boozy kids partying it up in a Jersey Shore rental house for TV’s summertime hit Fun House, while simultaneously trying to stop the rowdy kids from breaking the law up and down the beach. But even Ceepak and Danny can’t stop one young cast member from being murdered - and others from being threatened with the same fate.

Great fun as always but ending too obvious

I have enjoyed this whole series thus far, though some are better than others. This seemed like one of the better ones— light and fun and true to the characters and great sense of place, etc.— but the identity of the murderer was pretty obvious fairly early on. So no surprises in the final third of the book, but still a fun ride overall.

Enoyed. 3+ stars

I like this book but it was a bit like all the other "Ceepak" books. It's light-hearted and a good story but I'm just kinda burnt out on the whole series. It probrly deserves a higher rating but 3.5 is the best I can do.

An enjoyable predictable romp

Love the characters and ready for more in the next book. Danny’s voice is a fun way to experience the Jersey shore.

Ceepak and Boyle are worth waiting for

What made the experience of listening to Fun House the most enjoyable?

Jeff Woodman's narration was, as always, an excellent way to bring the fabulous characters of John Ceepak and Danny Boyle alive.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This was one of the lighter novels in the series, with Grabenstein taking the opportunity to poke fun at reality TV throughout the book, but no less suspenseful for that. There's lots of action and Grabenstein's usual subtle social commentary as well.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to Jeff Woodman narrating all the earlier books in this series and he is part of the reason I fell in love with the books (against my own expectations). His performance here was up to his usual high standard. Woodman IS Danny Boyle.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed. Out loud. Multiple times.

Any additional comments?

It IS hard to wait two years for each new instalment of this series but Grabenstein has made it worth the wait, meeting my expectations and then some.

MORE JOHN CEEPAK and DANNY BOYLE

Would you listen to Fun House again? Why?

I already have listened to it more than once. Whenever a new book comes out, I go back and listen to all of them from the beginning. Sort of like my own version of a "marathon". I enjoy them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fun House?

The ending.

Which scene was your favorite?

The ending.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Reality TV can be hazardous to your health

Any additional comments?

I love the Danny Boyle character and the books are special because they are told from his point of view which is a little sarcatic and often very funny. It has been fun to see him mature in the books from boy to man. Like all of us, he still has some room to grow so I hope the books keep coming.

John Ceepak Mystery is Summer Fun

Nothing Better than a John Ceepak Mystery to capture Summertime Fun. Chris Grabenstien gives reality TV (nod to Jersey Shore) its due with this tale of a raunchy reality TV show in the summer tourist destination of Sea Haven. The mash-up of John Ceepak, ex-marine stand-up guy, and Danny Boyle, local grown, never-thought-he-would-amount-to-much, just works for me. It is a fun ride and now that we are on Book 7, a nostalgic ride that I look forward to as a summer destination. Keep them coming Chris!

More Fun and Mystery on the Jersey Shore.

I like to check in with the guys in charge of policing the Jersey Shore about every third book I listen to.
Always a good story well performed.

Love the narrator,!

I forget that only one person is reading. The narrator is a full partner in this series. While I have not read the books, I don't think I would enjoy them as much as the Audible editions.
