Publisher's summary

The propulsive, shockingly plausible sequel to New York Times best seller Daemon.

In one of the most buzzed-about debuts, Daniel Suarez introduced a terrifying vision of a new world order, controlled by the Daemon, an insidious computer program unleashed by a hi-tech wunderkind. Daemon captured the attention of the tech community, became a New York Times and Indie best seller, and left listeners hungry for more. Well, more is here, and it's even more gripping than its predecessor.

In the opening chapters of Freedom, the Daemon is firmly in control, using an expanded network of real-world, dispossessed darknet operatives to tear apart civilization and rebuild it anew. Soon civil war breaks out in the American Midwest, in a brutal wave of violence that becomes known as the Corn Rebellion. Former detective Pete Sebeck, now the Daemon's most powerful - though reluctant - operative, must lead a small band of enlightened humans toward a populist movement designed to protect the new world order. But the private armies of global business are preparing to crush the Daemon once and for all.

In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

Critic reviews

"Freedom™ surpasses its smart, exciting predecessor. This concluding volume crackles with electrifying action scenes and bristles with intriguing ideas about a frightening, near-future world. The two books combined form the cyberthriller against which all others will be measured.” (Publishers Weekly [starred review]

“Suarez continues his popular technothriller, and Daemon fans will be well be pleased with the exciting conclusion.” (Booklist)

"An engrossing, fast-paced tale of speculative fiction." (SF Site)

Excellent story and sequel

A fantastic sequel to the Daemon book. The continuation of the story of Sobol's daemon and the new order being ushered in through those who have chosen to join it.

A worthy sequel to "Daemon"!

This is the exciting conclusion to Daniel Suarez' "Daemon". Be sure to listen to that first.

Wow

Good conclusion to this great story. Sure I had some issues with this book but not enough for me not to enjoy it. The highs far outweigh the lows.

FANTASTIC!

Where does Freedom (TM) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best fictional pieces that I have ever listened to. Very compelling from start to finish. I was actually hoping for a third book so that my questions about the future in this near-believable story would be answered.

What did you like best about this story?

Great character development along with many character switches within the story really make this book dynamic.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any scene with Loki or the Major were very cool. They are such sinister characters in their own way, you love to hate them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There was one scene that made my insides turn because the description was so vividly gory. I literally turned green for a minute.

Any additional comments?

I accidentally started with this book as my iPod has them arranged in alphabetical order. So I am now listening to the first book, Daemon, which is playing out quite like a Tarantino movie. This is turning into a very cool experience as I am now getting the full insight into the characters and story as they were developed by the author.

terrific yarn

exciting. creative. political. techo-thriller that has it all. I read Daemon and immediately started this seamless sequel. The dark net evolves to places we'd not ever have expected.

Great story

Thoroughly enjoyed the originality of the overall plot, though, you may notice some of the dialogue reads like a rather cliche cop movie. At points I felt as though the authors intentions of moviedom, if you will, outshined the integrity of the writing. Oh well, I still enjoyed it, some very smart elements that I expect will propel ever more creative sci-fi from other authors in the years to come.

importantly, the performance of the narrators was outstanding. I have to imagine the recording process was quite exhausting.
