    "Fascinating Mystery, Great Police Work"

Another solid story from this wonderful author. Not a home run, but a double at least!

My grandmother was a house mother at an Orphanage in SC and my sister and I spent a week every summer there. For Will Trent, the stigma and experiences of growing up an orphan in various foster homes and a children's home both shape and haunt him. It's an extremely accurate work of fiction.

Equally fascinating is Trent's dyslexia, how it hinders and helps him as an investigator. Slaughter does a great job with this throughout the entire series.

The mystery here revolves around the murder of two young adults and the kidnapping of another girl. The police have to find her before she is killed. This is where Slaughter is masterful. She knows how procedure and the law work for criminals and against victims.

Phil Gigante does a good job on narration. At first his tone grated on me, but in the end I was completely engrossed in the story, a certain sign of great writing and great narration.

    "Crime Fiction At Its finest"

I'm Looking forward to being a Karin Slaughter groupie. Fractured was my first book of hers I read. I found Will Trent to be most interesting and looking forward to many more.

Fractured is what a criminal investigation should be. Heart-pounding action, an intriguing investigation, engaging characters, twists and turns with an ending that you get to at the end of the book. The story is so complex that I realized who the culprits were right along with the protagonist - just as it should be.

I have always loved to read. As a child my mom actually grounded me from books if I was in trouble. Noone can do that now. Yay!

What did you love best about Fractured?

This crime wasn't surprising -- but the way it was introduced was shocking and then the author exposed me to the elements of the crime much like you would peel the layers of an onion apart. I don't like to tell the plot points or to be a spoiler so I won't explain my headline, but as a parent that introduction to the story was a nightmare. And I loved it.

I often know the ending of a mystery before I have read a quarter of the book. This story had more to hold me in suspense. Ms Slaughter is new to me, and I am glad to have discovered her. I read this book directly after reading the first in the series and it was nice to meet Will, Amanda, Angie and Faith again so quickly.

    "Good plot, whiny women"

I love Det. Will Trent, flaws and all. The women in his life have flaws, too - and that's OK, but why do they all have to be so whiny and full of self-doubt? I think part of the problem here may have been the narrator's take on the female characters in "Fractured" - his voices for them all ended up in the "high and whiny" register. So perhaps my criticism lies more in the fact that although Phil Gigante has a great reading voice, his skills as an actor are fairly questionable...
I preferred Triptych over this book - so start there....

"Great read....hooked on the Will Trent Series!"
Would you listen to Fractured again? Why?

I personally don't listen to books over again...but was well worth the read!

What did you like best about this story?

Great twists and turns, some well guided strains between relationships of the characters involved- always bringing light to the depth and past occurances that make each individual who they are.

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wonderful story teller, love how audible brings more depth to characters!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A parents worst nightmare, the struggles and the saviors....

I always pride myself by being able to figure out the killer before the end. I certainly was challenged with this one and all of Slaughter's work. There is always a twist in the story to fool even the best of us. I will listen to the entire series.

    Story
    "Not reality TV"

This is a mystery. It is fiction. That means it should hold your interest and entertain. As a mystery there should be some things to guess about.

All that said, this is an excellent mystery. The subject matter is very offensive. Pedophilia is offensive. Rape and murder are offensive. If you buy books that are mystery/thrillers about rape and murder you can't complain that the material is offensive.

The investigators in this series are in truth some rather odd ball characters, but so was Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. It is how well the mystery was developed that matters and how much the book keeps you guessing. This one does just fine.

Phil Gigante is one of the better narrators of audio books and does a fine job with this one. His accents are not over done as were the accents by the narrator of Triptych, so his narration carries the story rather than detracting from it.

    "Narrator-Please Deliver Me"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The story is great. The Narration is HORRID. The narrator should just read the story and trust the listener to know who is making the conversation. The narrator's attempt to give different voices is fake, distracting, and inconsistent. I wish I could get my credit back and read it on my kindle. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

What could Karin Slaughter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Chosen another narrator.

How could the performance have been better?

    Chosen another narrator.

What character would you cut from Fractured?

    The narrator.

    Any additional comments?

I'd love my credit back. I am through the first chapter of a very good story with a narrator that makes it very difficult to listen. Horrid, horrid, horrid.
