Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jana DeLeon, the eighth book in the Miss Fortune mystery series.

Someone has created a fake social media identity and is online romancing the lonely women of Sinful in order to scam them out of money. Because he always seems to pick the perfect targets, Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie think he must be either a Sinful resident or someone with a close association to the town.

Playing with emotions for pay is dirty pool, but the game turns deadly when one of the women is murdered. Fortune decides the victim must have figured out who the scam artist is and threatened him with exposure. Deputy Carter LeBlanc is hard at work to find the gunman, but sometimes it takes a woman to expose a lady-killer. Fortunately, Swamp Team 3 is on the job.

Fun Book

This book is a GREAT ADDITION to the series. In my humble opinion, this book is like a potato chip; you can't eat just one. The whole series is great entertainment.

Catfishing on the Internet!

This use of catfishing come from the 2010 movie Catfish. Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie continue their successful efforts to solve crimes in the small town of Sinful, Louisiana. They continue to irritate Deputy Carter LeBlanc. After finding out about Fortune's CIA job and exploits in the prior novel in the Miss Fortune Mysteries series, even the hint of romance is gone. Fortune Hunter has one of the more creative plots in the series. Cassandra Campbell's narration is excellent as always.

I wanted to take off a star...

I realized that the only thing I really didn't like about this story was that it ended and I don't know when the next one will arrive. I couldn't penalize the book for being too entertaining, could I?

A cute story!

I've read all this series and some are better than others. This is a good story. That being said, I had the bad guy figured out pretty early on. Fortune needs to get her life fixed, the bad guys caught and move full time to Louisiana. It seems like she's found her family there.

3 - 3.5 Stars

This book was good but it is my least favorite of the series so far. Fortune Hunter is book 8 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. This series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders.

Although this book wasn't as funny as the others, the entire series is full of humor. I stumbled across these books when I decided to check out a new-to-me genre called Cozy Mysteries and someone recommended this series. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. I have been listening to all of the books back to back. This is the first one where I didn't feel as though I couldn't turn it off. It wasn't quite as captivating for me.

In Fortune Hunter, a catfish has set their sights on ladies of Sinful. This person is pretending to be someone online and entering a fake relationship with these women so that they can get money out of them. Plus there is a murder to solve that takes precedence. Fortune and Carter are still dealing with the aftermath of Carter learning Fortune's secret.

I recommend this series and suggest that you read each book in order as it builds upon the prior story and makes everything that much more entertaining and enjoyable. If you like your books with a nice dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count.

The same woman narrates all of the books in this series. She does a really good job

Love the Fortune series, more original storyline

Can't wait for the next installment from Sinful. I've followed Deleon for about a year. Her bayou stuff is always fun though very repetitive. This had a much more original story line and kept my interest going.

As for the Performance. Not enough separation in the male voices and Carter's voice just didn't fit him so I gave 4 stars on the performance. Good but not great.

First time I've used the whisper sync. Worked really well. I accidentally left the book running on audible so it showed as finished. I just deleted from my iPhone, reopened my kindle and told it not to sync with the location on my device. When I redownloaded to my device, it synced again with my kindle in the correct location. Awesome!! That is a great feature.

More of the same

Very much like the previous books. Fun and engaging. Well worth the price of admission.

Brought back my interest

The last couple of books in this series slowed my interest, but I'm glad I kept with it. I liked that Fortune is past pretending and that we get to see more of who she really is. I have to say I wish the chapters had titles because each one could have a funny name.
