Publisher's summary

Bravery. Honor. Sacrifice. These are more than mere words to trained Marine sniper Nathan McBride. He’s never backed away from danger, and he’s not about to start now, even if it means confronting the cold-blooded interrogator who tortured him to the brink of death more than a decade ago.

When a mutilated body is discovered in a remote Utah lake, it ignites a chain of events that forces Nathan to face a dark chapter from a past he’s worked hard to forget. Could his Nicaraguan enemy be active again? On American soil? The evidence is clear, but the stakes are higher than Nathan can know. In a showdown that will test Nathan’s understanding of justice and mercy, he’ll have to make a life or death decision that has the potential to expose and destroy people at the highest levels of government.

Critic reviews

"An absolutely bone-chilling thriller. Equal parts Stephen Hunter and Thomas Harris. Imagine Bob Lee Swagger going after Hannibal Lecter and you will have only scratched the surface of this intensely exciting novel. Forced To Kill will haunt you long after you read its last brilliantly plotted page." (Brad Thor)

Typical of genre; cringe-worthy reader

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Have it read by a different person.

Would you be willing to try another book from Andrew Peterson? Why or why not?

Probably not. I've listened to two now and that's enough. Too predictable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His character voices are poorly done -- especially for female characters. Even male character voices don't seem appropriate for the character. His "acting", especially in high-stress scenes, is over the top -- cringe-worthy as I said in the headline.

Hill does his usual style by inserting dramatic pauses in the middle of sentences -- sometimes in the middle of a word. It gets old fast. I'd rather listen to a straight read of the book, rather than Dick Hill's "dramatic" version.

Could you see Forced to Kill being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I couldn't care less.

Love this series!

Want a flawed, but effective hero duo? Look no further. The writing is tight and to the point. Only enough detail to propel the story forward. Tension at every turn, just how I like it. You won’t be disappointed with this one. Enjoy!

Enjoyed #2. Good continuation of book 1.

What made the experience of listening to Forced to Kill the most enjoyable?

Good twists and turns in the plot. you think you know what will happen, but things get tied together in a different way than expected.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nate has been thru the worst and struggles with it, and Harvey really keeps the situation in focus. Hard to pick between the 2.

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Nate is good, but Harvey wins in this category

Suspenseful and Entertaining

What did you love best about Forced to Kill?

It kept me engaged. I couldn't put it down the last 2+ hours. It is a good story. This author has the ability to deliver it in a way that you can follow, understand the characters and truly enjoy.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Forced to Kill?

Nathan's determination and results.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Credibility. He has been at his profession a long time with a lot of well known authors. His voice inflection and abilty to differentiate the character voices are great. He is my preference to deliver audio books and in my opinion sets the standard for delivery.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did but didn't have the time. From the opening pages I was engaged and couldn't stop listening.

FORCED TO KILL - A Winner ! ! !

FORCED TO KILL, the second in author Andrew Peterson's thriller series that features hero Nathan McBride, is a roller coaster ride from start to finish. If you want a thrill ride, FORCED TO KILL is a bona fide winner! You won't be disappointed. I can't wait for book # 3 in this series.

WOW!!! Just WOW!!!

Okay, another one for the Marines!!! Retired or not, Nathan McBride and partner, Harvey still rock! Didn't realize this was the second in the series, now I have to go back and listen to the first one. My husband and I listened to this on the road to our son's house. He's a retired Army guy. We both enjoyed the military ops terms, wouldn't be the same without it. Dick Hill nailed it with the narration. Ending was perfect.

Very close...

This was not as enjoyable as the first book in the series. There are a few big misses for a main character that is a Marine. First, A Marine is not a soldier. We never use that title. We are Marines. The dialogue around the Corps misses the mark. The story is OK if not entirely plausible. The Scoot Sniper teamwork and unity is done well. Worth the read.
