Best mystery series ever----great performance of t

If you're a fan of the Joe Pickett novels, this is the book you've been wanting and waiting to read since the first couple of books in this series.  Finally, learn what Nate's big secret is all about.   It was worth the wait, and now I'm even more intrigues by Nate, who lives to seek a 'pure but self designated' justice, and his good friend, Wyoming Game Warden, Joe Picket, who seeks justice through honor, loyalty, and the law.

Box writes his characters so realistically that they feel like good friends.  His writes great characterizations while tackling interesting and relevant issues of the day.  This is so much so that the real non-fiction book referred to in this novel is now on my to-read list!!  Great writing plus a great story is a combination that can't be beat!  Bring on the next in the series!!!!

Same ole Story

Would you try another book from C. J. Box and/or David Chandler?

Yes I have enjoyed all of the Joe Pickett books, but if they continue with the same storyline as this book I will probably stop reading C J Box.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Nate has been sold out in order to make him fit the mold of sex for the sake of sex you find in most books. He use to have a code he lived up to ,but now he is just like everyone else BORING . I am so disappointed with the direction this story line took.

Could you see Force of Nature being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Just pick a star............they are interchangable....

Wild west adventure, starring Nate the Great!

OK, so Nate Romanowski is not the adult version of the child detective, and this is once again more of an adventure than a mystery! Nate is somewhat like a comic book superhero, but I liked the story nevertheless. The underlying motive for his adversary isn't revealed until rather late in the book, and the involvement of Joe Pickett and his family is somewhat peripheral and secondary. The narration was great, as usual, and the descriptions of the scenery and wildlife in Wyoming and nearby states are wonderful, as always. A good story.

My fave Joe Pickett book, by far.

This book is so much fun to listen to. I am lucky enough to be listening to this at the same time as the Walt Whitmire books, and although I have never been to Wyoming, I am beginning to appreciate its beauty and the majesty of the mountains. In this book Nate Romanowski returns, and he is being hunted down by an old colleague who has gone over to the dark side. This guy, John Nemecek (I think) was in the early days Joe's teacher in the art of falconry, when they both were working in the Special Ops Division of the military, very hush-hush and all that. Nemecek is circling Nate like a wild cat stalking its prey, and he begins killing off virtually everyone Nate knows from the old days, some of them people who have been in Saddlestring for many years. In addition to this thriller plot, we have a couple of romantic angles, and each of these is really well written. Joe and Marybeth are like high school kids with each other, totally in love, and yet there is an undercurrent of a fantasy triangle with Nate, who appears to be Ladykiller #1 in Wyoming, Natural Man personified. Nate picks up a woman named Hayden along the way in his peekaboo with Nemecek. There is a strong attraction between them: the romantic developments are like a Wild West soap opera, but with guns and violent deaths and betrayals right and left. Too many to explain. And there is once again Joe's reliable tendency (need?) to go off into dangerous chases on his own, with zero back-up. Except for one time when a partner is assigned to him, and I won't ruin for you how this one turns out. Confused? You won't be as you listen, because Mr. Box makes it all flow in a masterful way. I would definitely get mucho lost in the wilds of Wyoming, but I always know where I am in Mr. Box's novels. I am very glad that between the two series there are roughly twenty books: these guys will keep me listening for a couple of years. I did watch one episode of Whitmire on Netflix, and I enjoyed it as well. All told, this is fantastic entertainment, escapism at its finest. Several people have remarked that George Guidall IS Walt Whitmire, and I couldn't agree more. David Chandler does a great job here as well, with excellent pacing and voicings, and enough suspense to keep you on the proverbial edge of your chair. Which can be a bit uncomfortable for ten hours or so. But, well worth the strain on your aching back: have fun!

Great book

Would you consider the audio edition of Force of Nature to be better than the print version?

I loved this as an audiobook because listening to the book made me slow down and savor all the beautiful descriptions of the mountains, wilderness, weather, etc. It makes you feel like you are right there. When reading a print book I sometimes read too fast and skim over the descriptions.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the setting (western mountains and wilderness) and the action was non-stop.

I guess I'm the only non C.J. Box fan

Or David Chandler... I hate when someone over does a Super gruff voice for a tough guy - As I do for a high pitched girl. I grinded through one part of the book because I wanted to give it my all + 10 minutes of the second. It had a promising story line - But I didn't like the main characters at all. Maybe if I read it - I would have liked a little more - But I'm not entirely sure. The reader was slow and his voice was not engaging. Don't hate me - But it seems like a book for an older generation that likes it a little bit of rough..I might also understand why it might appeal to female readers. That's not sexist - That's sensitivity I'm talking about. It's returnable - That's how much I didn't like it. I'll take a look - but I have bought quite a few books & this might be number 4 that I am returning.

Enjoyable

I’m not much for the series because most of the books are so similar. I pick at random and this seemed different and I thought it very enjoyable.
