One of the worst I've listened to so far

I was suckered in by the reviews...this story was terrible! The characters whiny and pathetic and unlikeable. What they "see in Romania" isn't the worst thing in the planet and I kept waiting for there to be something else....a clue as to why the poor, rich, privileged & emotionally frail Laura was such a basket case! The story is so convoluted and implausible and the narrator sounded like he was falling asleep half the time.
The big mystery was easy to figure out and the end was absolutely silly. The author resorted to a final twist! Surprise! Which made me hate the character more.
Ridiculous story.
Move on, pick another book! You'll be glad you passed this one up.

Not good

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I don't know - a sensible plot? A plausible explanation of events? Ten less chapters?

What could Mark Edwards have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I started out enjoying the book, but about half way through it became tedious. I got lost in the details of who did what to whom. Why some of these things were important? It was TOTALLY impossible to believe the ending.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of James Langton?

He did a fine job.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment that I wasted so much time listening to it.

Any additional comments?

I hate to hurt authors' feelings, but just have to share these comments.

Worth a read or listen

A decent suspense novel, but the ending was somewhat lacking in impact, and the epilogue seemed like it was thrown in last-minute. Also, it almost seems like, about half way through writing the story, the author decided to change the story from a supernatural suspense into a simple suspense\mystery. While still a good novel, i was somewhat let down when all the build-up toward a supernatural bend was forsaken for a logical, albeit ridiculously far-fetched, answer. Worth a read, but probably not a novel i'd read twice.

Great listen.

This was a great book. The story line doesn't play out as expected but It had a good ending. The author ties up most of the loose ends while leaving the future to the imagination. The narrator did a nice job giving each character a bit of personality.

Twisty Good Tale of a Vacation Gone Bad

There are lots of twists and turns in this story and the suspense will keep you listening. I think any misgivings you have about certain characters is eventually explained. I won't elaborate because it will spoil the story. James Langton does a great job with the narration. I would also recommend The Magpies by Mark Edwards.

Starts badly and then gets worse

I enjoy the novels co-written by Mark Edwards and Louise Voss, but Mark Edwards alone is a horrible author. Follow You Home could not have been worse.

LOVED the start…. HATED the ending!

A story that eludes to unspeakable horrors, hints at dreadful experiences and promises a big shocking reveal really can’t live up to that immense expectation.

What on EARTH could possibly be THAT horrific??? You try and imagine what it could be based on the snippets of detail and the slow reveal, but as the story moves on and your imagination takes over at a certain point nothing can compete with the scenario you’ve already concocted in your head. A three-headed wolf monster with sharp teeth and razor claws? A factory that makes curtains out of human flesh? A laser-eyed demon that eats tourists and drinks their blood for desert? WHAT! WHAT! WHAT!

It was an anti-climax. If the expectation-bar wasn’t set so high, the House of Horrors in the Woods would have been much more shocking. As it was, it barely resonated above an: “oh, ok, yeah, bad…. wait… didn’t I just see this on CSI?” and certainly did not match anything that would explain all that post traumatic shock our protagonists suffered.

The intriguing start of the story had me hooked and kept me guessing, I thought I was in for a great page-turny-thriller…. but sadly it was not to be. Once the truth was revealed, the tale veered off into ridiculous territory that would not have held my interest no matter how well the story started.

In a nut shell, I just thought it was dumb.

Pretty good

I would recommend the book because it's exciting and entertaining. I only had a problem with the reader's voice for this story. I liked his voice but he made Daniel and Laura sound like really old/oldtimey people.

Decent story. Worth the 9 hours if you have a long drive ahead of you. Typical horrors of reality thriller.

Excellent thriller

All aspects of this audio were very good. I had a hard time stopping when I had to get out of the car. In fact I brought it in to house to listen after work several times just to be able to finish it and find out the ending.
