Publisher's summary

Sunshine State trivia buff Serge A. Storms loves eliminating jerks and pests. His drug-addled partner Coleman loves cartoons. Hot stripper Sharon Rhodes loves cocaine, especially when purchased with rich dead men's money. On the other hand, there's Sean and David, who love fishing and are kind to animals - and who are about to cross paths with a suitcase filled with $5 million in stolen insurance money. Serge wants the suitcase. Sharon wants the suitcase. Coleman wants more drugs... and the suitcase. In the meantime, there's murder by gun, Space Shuttle, Barbie doll, and Levi's 501s. In other words, welcome to Tim Dorsey's Florida - where nobody gets out unscathed and untanned!

hilarious book, not so great narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES. It's hilarious! I've read a Kindle book of the series and I laughed the entire time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Florida Roadkill?

they're all so funny, that's it difficult to pick. The fact that I can just see Serge, in my head, running around Florida acting crazy is memorable enough.

Would you be willing to try another one of George Wilson’s performances?

Yes, actually I have already purchased two more in the series, despite the fact that he sounds like a reincarnated Walter Cronkite reading the evening news. I mean, this guy really should not be narrating audiobooks. He smacks his lips (I think he has the mic right up against his mouth?), gasps and breathes like a someone who is drowning, has terrible pacing, and seemingly doesn't get the finer nuances of reading out loud to an audience. Oddly enough though, it adds to the book's madcap storyline of jerks, pests, and general weirdness in Florida.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

They all moved me to laugh until I cried. People would pass me on the highway and look at me as I was laughing like a hyena. I'm sure they thought I'd been in the truck too long for sure.

Mediocre

I found it confusing slow and I almost didn’t finish it. Three stars is optimistic.

Crazy!

I never would have thought there could be such a likeable serial killer. He is hyper and brilliant.

Colorful criminal characters

Intensely unlikable characters make for a story that's like watching the aftermath of a natural disaster.

The author does a good job creating these characters and their stories.

For many, this should be a fun story, but since all of the characters are so unlikable, I think I'll quit at 2/3 finished.

worthy

Although I didn't do a lot of out loud laughing, it was funny and odd. I like that. There are plenty of shenanigans and weirdness. It is very well performed by the narrator and a lot of fun to listen to. Worth picking up. will be looking into the next one.

Mike Mc has rated Gator a go go as a Florida resid

I loved it just like I have loved all the Tim Dorsey books. same humuorous story-spinning ability he exhibited when he wrote for the Auburn PLAINSMAN paper back in college. the difference now being that I LiVE IN Florida, specifically Panama City Beach, the setting of this story. Tim accurately captures the details of PCB during its heyday as the spring break capitol, which it has furiously succeeded in turning around and is now a safe, family-friendly vacation spot with still the most beautiful beaches in the U S. there are hundreds of hotels in PCB but none that approach the notoriety of the GATOR a go go RANCH motel detailed in this book.
dorsey perfectly overlays his characters of Serge Storms and his perpetuall-buzzed sidekick Coleman onto a story full of the Spring break shenanigans and Miami vice Mafia hyjinx of the 1980- 90s headlines made in Florida. I'm sure Dorsey was there, as was I, to experience this period of time in Florida as a real Spring Breaker because he Nails it so well. Serge and Coleman fit right in and mesh well into the storyline of a young son of an FBI Witness protection client that has mistakenly been outed and is being hunted by the Mob and a bunch of bumbling Agents trying to protect their careers as much as the young kid and his family during his Spring break trip.

Raunchy, and Hilarious!!!!

Where does Florida Roadkill rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Absolutely a book that makes you think. I like this book very much. An author that truly understands that life does have a "gray area".

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I wasn't at the edge of my seat, but I was pleasantly surprised about the angles the author took. This book thinks outside of the box. I found a book that sees Florida as I see it. No offense, but the state of Florida is definitely "special" to put it mildly.

What three words best describe George Wilson’s voice?

I was able to identify each character. Everyone had an identity. Very well done.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction, But totally worth the listen and the credit. I am not easily amused nor am I ever startled or surprised but anyone's behavior, but this book made me laugh and had me raising my eyebrows. Very well done.
