Publisher's summary

An illegal immigrant is killed in a hit-and-run on a frozen mountain road in the town of Fairview, Colorado. No one is prosecuted for his death and his case is quietly forgotten. Six months later another illegal makes a treacherous run across the border, barely escaping with her life. She finds work as a maid and, secretly, begins to investigate the death of her father. But she isn't a maid, and she's not Mexican. She's Detective Mercado, a police officer from Havana, and she's looking for answers to her father's death. McKinty's live-wire prose is riveting, right up to a final, shocking conclusion.

Pointless...

is how I find the story of this book. I found it hard to identify with the 'heroine'...and yes, I realize it is because we come from different backgrounds and perhaps this is what the author was trying to get at. But I can't enjoy a book when I not only can't sympathize...I can't even empathize with the situation.

Terrible Narration

I can't really rate the quality of this book. I've tried to listen to it several times since I bought it. The narration is terrible, so many accents and the male voices in particular are just distractingly off.

Get Real!

Terrible... Show me anywhere in history a woman that is a killer the likes of the Main Character in this Novel.
After reading all of his previous works, I was really disappointed with this novel. Why do writers and movie moguls feel the need to make women masculine beyond reality.
Adrian, quit listening to your publisher and literary agent. My wife agreed with my appraisle.
Why not just put a mustache on women and have them smoking cigars and spitting in the streets.
Sorry bud, you blew it with this one.

nails on chalk board

I really enjoy other Adrian McKinty books, but this one I couldn't get past the narrators awful voice and even worse accents. She murdered this book. Wish I could give performance a minus, can't say much about story, only made it through 2 chapters and couldn't take any more of it.

vulgar

This book would have been a great listen had it not been for the fact that the "f-word" was used every three or four words. A good plot but the language was excessive and unneeded.

Awful, wish I could get my money back

This qualifies as the worst audio book I have listened to.

The male accents are grating, the story line is all over the place, huge parts of the story are pointless and far fetched and I found myself skipping forward so I could get through it.

This was an audible recommendation. I have learnt my lesson as far as their recommendations are concerned.

Get to the point already!

I wanted to like this book, and the premise was good, but it dragged out so much towards the end I couldn't bring myself to finish it even though I wanted to know how it ended. Overall one of the most boring books I've read in a while

Avoid this book. It is really bad and hard to listen to. I couldn't go past 10 minutes.

Deathly slow

The story was far from original. There was no real mystery. The only suspense was why the author took such a tedious path of explaining the ending which was actually the first chapter. I only completed the "listening" because I thought that with all the good ratings, the best was yet to come.
