Publisher's summary

When Phil Kramer is shot dead on a deserted suburban street in the middle of the night, his wife, Emily, is left with an emptied bank account and a lot of questions. How could Phil leave her penniless? What was he going to do with the money? And, most of all, who was he if he wasn't the man she thought she married?

Jerry Hobart has some questions of his own. It's none of his business why he was hired to kill Phil Kramer. But now that he's been ordered to take out Kramer's widow, he figures there's a bigger secret at work---and maybe a bigger payoff.

As they race to find the secret Phil Kramer so masterfully hid, both Hobart and Emily must question where their true loyalties lie and how much they owe those who have been unfaithful to them. In Fidelity, Thomas Perry delivers another riveting thriller.

Critic reviews

"Perry intrigues as always with spare, intelligent prose." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A spunky but believable heroine, an emotionally conflicted killer, a plot whose twists you will not anticipate.... Fidelity is a winner." ( Library Journal

This was well written and kept me interested

Would you consider the audio edition of Fidelity to be better than the print version?

Can't answer since I have not read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Emily - she didn't give up trying to find the murderer of her husband even though he had been unfaithful to her and didn't deserve her loyalty.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Michael Kramer?

Definitely

Thoroughly engrossing!

It's the most engrossing story I read in a while. Tightly woven plot. Characters and nplot very tight. Couldn't wait to finish it and now I'm sorry it finished! Narration is GREAT!

Mr Perry just phoned this one in

I am a big fan of Thomas Perry, but if this had been the first book of his that I read it would have probably been the last. The character development and story details are there as usual, but the story is, while dealing with a tragic subject, really flat and boring. This book feels like the author had a demanding editor and he just through something together to get them off his book. Whether this is you first Thomas Perry book or if you are very familiar with his work, skip this book. It’s not worth the time or money.

tired author

I would have rated this book much higher. The reader was good and the story excellent, but it seemed to me the the author ran out of steam and became tired of writing and brought the story to an unsatisfactory end. The potential was there for a fabulous ending with some interesting twists. He had all the elements and could easily have developed a far better conclusion. After really enjoying 95% the story fell flat.

Is it over?

This was my first Thomas Perry book; I can't say I would go out of my way to read or listen to another one. I certainly wouldn't pay money to do so. The story had a lot of potential but in the end, it was just too bloated with characters speculating on how another character felt, what they saw, how an event might play out or did play out. The ending was less than predictable, it just trailed off to the last word of the last paragraph.

Very light mystery

Overall, I feel I could have done better spending my credits elsewhere. The mystery was very light -- and not believable. The characters never come to life, so you don't care about any of them. In lieu of plot twists, the characters act out of character for no reason (SPOILER ALERT, but why would you read this book anyway?): the rich, shallow wife who has barely tolerated or spoken to her husband in years all of sudden cares about what might happen to him, even if it puts her at risk (really?). The cold-blooded killer has 'had it' with his occupation, even though there is nothing about this case that seems any different than the ones he's handled for decades. The millionaire who hires a killer to shoot a man from a distance, takes all kinds of crazy risks deciding to burn down a house or two by himself...Yes, other books have similar twists -- except there was absolutely no preparation (or anything to make you believe) the sudden shifts here. It was simply as if the author needed something to happen and someone to do it...and she just grabbed the character that was closest.
