Publisher's summary

Eve Dallas deals with a homicide - and the holiday season - in the latest from the #1New York Times bestselling author.

Personal trainer Trey Ziegler was in peak physical condition. If you didn't count the kitchen knife in his well-toned chest.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas soon discovers a lineup of women who'd been loved and left by the narcissistic gym rat. While Dallas sorts through the list of Ziegler's enemies, she's also dealing with her Christmas shopping list - plus the guest list for her and her billionaire husband's upcoming holiday bash.

Feeling less than festive, Dallas tries to put aside her distaste for the victim and solve the mystery of his death. There are just a few investigating days left before Christmas, and as New Year's 2061 approaches, this homicide cop is resolved to stop a cold-blooded killer.

Festive in Death

Any additional comments?

Another review for the In Death series! Woot-woot-woot! Yikes, what else is there to say about this series? I’ve read, rather listened to, the entire series. If you’re a fan, you already know the characters … and, they are wonderful. But, I’m ready to gripe a little. First, in my humble opinion, Eve Dallas is “over-the-top”, a lot. There. I said it. Go ahead, shoot me. I realize this is all part of her character, but she’s a bit much sometimes. She is a brilliant and relentless investigator, but she is also unbelievably snarky and obnoxious with regard to pretty much everything. Even her handsome husband and friends fall victim. I mean, come on, who in their right mind would bitch about the house Roarke has created, the beautiful clothes he buys for her, jewelry. Gimme a break. She needs to chill a bit and enjoy her world a bit more.

Nuff griping about Eve.

The audiobook is read by Susan Erickson, and her portrayal of the In Death characters is superb, as usual. You are really doing yourself a disservice if you don’t listen to these stories rather that just read them. Ericsson and Nora Roberts have created an amazing group of wonderful characters that the audiobooks simply bring to life.

Festive In Death, in a similar vein to a previous In Death mystery, takes place during Christmas. Murder and mayhem. If you’re a fan of the In Death series, you’ll enjoy the story.

Story Great, but .....

As usual the story was great. But I felt sorry for Susan Erickson as it surely sound like she had a bad cold. Very nasal.

SHE STILL HAS THE MAGIC

I have read a couple of reviews saying that the last couple of books have been flat. I am not sure what they are reading or expecting but any book that can take me from crying because of the sweetness of the Eve and Roarke to laughing at the outrageous antics of Mavis has not lost it's magic.
The growth of characters is exactly what keeps me coming back and wanting more. I have read other series in which you have the same characters in each book and the lack of growth stifled my interest in the characters, book and author. The in Death series does not have that problem.
The other complaint I have read says that someone else must be writing the books because the word choice shows a lack of futuristic tense. As we have been introduced to this world and time we have become knowledgeable about its language and terms so that may be what the other readers are seeing or maybe because we are getting closer to the time of this series our language is catching up. Either way I still enjoy a look to our close future.
Should Eve be promoted/ have a baby. I think those to events would come hand in hand and add another dimension to the story. I know JD Robb has said the series would be over if they had a baby but I would be interested in learning how they both add that dimension to their lives and see how they would need to adjust to a new situation. If it coincided with a promotion for Eve that took her off the streets and used her intuition and people skills to manage others during an investigation it could work. I know I enjoy her kicking butt however as people grow and learn they figure out how to accomplish their goals using new skills and it would be interesting to see how they change and grow. It could also get Peabody out on her own more so she has a chance to do the butt kicking and add dimension to her relationship with Eve.

Improved

Would you consider the audio edition of Festive in Death to be better than the print version?

I always consider audio better that print because my vision is not that good.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Festive in Death?

When Eve gave Roark the magic jacket I got tears...and I NEVER do that.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

Peabody

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wouldn't

Any additional comments?

I like the fact that the author has made the love scenes less frequent. I was to the point, "not again". This does not mean that I don't like a little smut however when it gets in the way of a good story it is too much. I like that there is more action and more to the stories. Eve Dallas and her team are super. Long may they sleuth.

Great mystery

I love JD Robb books for many reasons. They tell a good story. The long-running series keeps me involved with the characters, where many a much shorter series begins to grate at my nerves after only a few books.

One of the things that this series doesn’t usually provide for me is a good Mystery. I can almost always guess whodunnit very early in the book. Festive in Death proved a genuine brain teaser, party because the victim and the vast majority of the suspects and were horrible!

It’s a wonderful life

Of all the books in this series, this one is my favorite- it sends the reader upon a journey through murder, shopping, love making, and character building situations for a top murder cop living in 2060 New York City known as Lt. Eve Dallas. As with all books in this series, J.D. Robb, also known as Nora Roberts, makes us, the readers, feel like we are right there walking in all the character’s shoes!
