Publisher's summary

My name is Dr. Adeline Glen. Due to a genetic condition, I can’t feel pain. I never have. I never will.

The last thing Boston Detective D. D. Warren remembers is walking the crime scene after dark. Then, a creaking floorboard, a low voice crooning in her ear… She is later told she managed to discharge her weapon three times. All she knows is that she is seriously injured, unable to move her left arm, unable to return to work.

My sister is Shana Day, a notorious murderer who first killed at fourteen. Incarcerated for thirty years, she has now murdered more people while in prison than she did as a free woman.

Six weeks later, a second woman is discovered murdered in her own bed, her room containing the same calling cards from a previous crime scene: A bottle of champagne and a single red rose. The only person who may have seen the killer: Detective D. D. Warren, who still can’t lift her child, load her gun, or recall a single detail from the night that may have cost her everything.

Our father was Harry Day, an infamous serial killer who buried young women beneath the floor of our home. He has been dead for forty years. Except the Rose Killer knows things about my father he shouldn’t. My sister claims she can help catch him. I think just because I can’t feel pain doesn’t mean my family can’t hurt me.

D.D. may not be back on the job, but she is back on the hunt. Because the Rose Killer isn’t just targeting lone women, he is targeting D.D. And D.D. knows there is only one way to take him down: Fear nothing.

wow

Lisa Gardner is my favorite Author, and I'm yet to listen to a book of hers that I didn't like, but wow was this a good one! from page one this book grabs you and won't let you go until the very end! I very seldomly write reviews but this book is awesome! one of the best, if not the very best I've listened to so far, and I've listened to all but a few. You won't be disappointed, a real page turner!

Good whodunnit

Kept me guessing till the end. Narrated was decent with different tones & voices. Easy to follow her. Enjoy listening to Audible during my 1/2 hour drive to work & home.

Enjoyed Reading this book

this book was fascinating as it was told from two perspectives DD Warren and a woman who could not feel pain. The author does a great job describing what life was like for a person who could not feel pain. The plot was extremely interesting to me and there were a few twists.

From the first lines to the last...it’s got you!

Most books build in their interest. NOT THIS ONE! It begins with a bang and never slows down right to the very end. Great book!

Definitely a page turner

I enjoyed the psychological twists & turns. Good character development, with a crime investigation which, at times, made me uncomfortable. The narrator did an excellent job. I plan on reading more Lisa Gardner books, and I recommend this one.

Entertaining!

I love a good mystery and Detective D.D. Warren always delivers. Lisa Gardner really does her research when it comes to believability and she tells a fabulous tale!

Dependable!

Solid mystery, and an interesting look at IFS management (A way trauma victims learn to reorganize survival/coping skills during second half of life). It’s interesting, especially as I just finished reading Oprah’s book, What Happened to You?, about early childhood trauma and its myriad manifestations.

Gardner always does a good job of teaching me about something new (with a compelling mystery thrown in). Worth a credit!

Great great book

The ending was not what I thought but it seemed right in all ways. All is right with the world. Fine book!

Great book!

I thought this was one of Lisa Gardner’s best books. I couldn’t wait to listen on the way to work.
