Publisher's summary

My name is Dr. Adeline Glen. Due to a genetic condition, I can’t feel pain. I never have. I never will.

The last thing Boston Detective D. D. Warren remembers is walking the crime scene after dark. Then, a creaking floorboard, a low voice crooning in her ear… She is later told she managed to discharge her weapon three times. All she knows is that she is seriously injured, unable to move her left arm, unable to return to work.

My sister is Shana Day, a notorious murderer who first killed at fourteen. Incarcerated for thirty years, she has now murdered more people while in prison than she did as a free woman.

Six weeks later, a second woman is discovered murdered in her own bed, her room containing the same calling cards from a previous crime scene: A bottle of champagne and a single red rose. The only person who may have seen the killer: Detective D. D. Warren, who still can’t lift her child, load her gun, or recall a single detail from the night that may have cost her everything.

Our father was Harry Day, an infamous serial killer who buried young women beneath the floor of our home. He has been dead for forty years. Except the Rose Killer knows things about my father he shouldn’t. My sister claims she can help catch him. I think just because I can’t feel pain doesn’t mean my family can’t hurt me.

D.D. may not be back on the job, but she is back on the hunt. Because the Rose Killer isn’t just targeting lone women, he is targeting D.D. And D.D. knows there is only one way to take him down: Fear nothing.

A Fascinating Whodunit....

This story held my interest about serial killers and how a father's murderous mental health impacted his two daughters' and their mental health as well as their mother's. It's about pain and the lack thereof, including physical, emotional and psychological pain. The daughters learn that "blood is love" as taught by their father. This was a psychological thriller type novel. The storyline moves forward using flashbacks to fill in gaps of information for DD Warren and crew and the reader.

I've read two other DD Warren novels: Live to Tell and Love You More. I really liked Love You More but didn't like Live to Tell so much. For me, if it's a good story, murder mystery or thriller but the narrator is not up to par, then I usually just quit listening.

Kirsten Potter is an excellent narrator. Her performances are the best I've heard by a female narrator. Kirsten keeps her voice calm and steady with appropriate inflections appropriate for the words and she adds drama as needed. I first heard her in the performance of Tami Hoag's novel "Down the Darkest Road" -- outstanding performance!

I couldn't turn it off and still thinking about it

What did you love best about Fear Nothing?

DeeDee was more vulnerable than previous stories. The characters were complex and I enjoyed all the psycho-babble.

What other book might you compare Fear Nothing to and why?

Silence of the Lambs and if I say more I'll ruin it for others.

Which scene was your favorite?

The prison break!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I pretty much did listen to this in one sitting, I was done in 24 hours.

Any additional comments?

***Spoiler*** I was sad for the sisters. That day they had together was so wonderful but there was a foreboding and I knew it wasn't going to end well. Shanna was redeemed in many ways and I had hoped they would escape together or clear her name so the sisters could start a life together. So much for that but it was still a great book. Thank you Lisa Gardner, more please!

Excellent, like all other D.D. Warren novels

Where does Fear Nothing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This story was excellent and in keeping with all of the previous Detective D.D. Warren novels.

Any additional comments?

I enjoy this book series because you become familiar with the main characters, and there is a continuing storyline among them throughout. However, you could also read each novel as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the other D.D. Warren novels first. I find it interesting that even though D.D. is in every novel, the story is always from a different character's point of view.

This was a suspenseful, interesting story. I am never disappointed by Lisa Gardner. Definitely worth the read. I am moving on to the next in the series.

Fantastic!

Would you consider the audio edition of Fear Nothing to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version but I gobbled the audio up!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fear Nothing?

The ending was just perfect!

Which scene was your favorite?

Dede's scene was... however, I am left wondering about that scene. Wondering why that song... I thought it was a woman... this part just didn't feel completed by the end.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Gosh, so much of the situation between sisters.

Any additional comments?

I think this was one of Lisa Gardner's best books so far!

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book....

I am a dedicated Lisa Gardner fan. I have read (or listened to) every book! I am just not sure how I feel about this book. The characters were interesting, even if disturbing, and it held my attention - starting with a bang!! But, it just became too contrived. The relationship between the sisters, what occurred between them... it was just too hard to find any grain of plausibility in that, for me. Not to mention the fact that D.D. was on suspension/leave - not only because of an injury - but also because of a pending investigation re: discharging her gun. I seriously doubt ANY member of "her team" would risk the consequences of letting her be such a large part of an active case. It would have been more believable for me, as a reader - and more challenging for D.D., as a character to see her struggle with the challenges of working the case from a desk.

That said, the narration is excellent!!! Kirsten Potter is a favorite!!
