She looked into the dead face of the man she'd dined with the night before...
Standing over the body of a Supreme Court nominee, Lieutenant Sam Holland is hip-deep in another high-profile murder case. The fact that she was one of the last people to see Julian Sinclair alive just complicates things even more. On the plus side, her relationship with Senator Nick Cappuano is heating up - but it's also attracting a lot of unwanted media attention and blinding flash bulbs.
The pressure is on for Sam to find Sinclair's killer, but a new lead in her father's unsolved shooting puts her in unexpected danger. When long-buried secrets threaten to derail her relationship with Nick, Sam realizes that, while justice can be blind, mixing romance with politics has the potential to be fatal.

I am a long time audio book listener. This is my first review. I am very impressed. It is easy to love the two main characters. There is a wonderful story, a family you can believe, "family values" that are real and have been tested. There is love, romance and some wonderful sex. It is a full service story. Marie Force seems to be a relatively new author and I predict we will see a lot of her soon.
I hope she keeps Sam and Nick around for a very long time. I am hooked.
Read them in order.
My taste varies depending on my mood. I use to read primarily crime dramas (fiction & true crime), but have been on a NA & PNR kick lately.
Possibly. I liked the whole series.
Probably not. She reads okay, but I didn't like her voice. It doesn't match the character. The narrators from the other books in the series were much for fitting for Sam.
It would have been , if the voice didn't bug me.
Very low, mainly because of the performance. I had a hard time telling characters apart.
This book had a little bit of everything. It wasn't a bad book but I don't know if I'll read it again. The story itself was pretty good & some of the characters were CRAZY!!! :)
I was disappointed in this book. I bought it to get a murder mystery, but this book contained way too many very explicit sex scenes. It was as if the author was trying to make it a murder mystery and romance novel combined, which just didn't work for me. The storyline was nothing great, as I usually like surprise endings, or twists and turns in a story, neither of which was contained in this book. Not sure if I will read any more of this authors books.
An excellent follow-up to "Fatal Affair". The relationship between Samantha and Nick heats up as Sam investigates the murder of a Supreme Court nominee.
The basic story was solid, but the characters seemed smarmy in the beginning of the book. I'm not sure if that was the fault of the writer or the narrator. For the first several chapters, this felt like a second novel in a series. There was a lot of back story that felt superfluous.
I think I would have liked more solid action a little earlier in the story, because once the action picked up, the book got better.
One of the most interesting parts of the book was the side story about the main character's partner exploring a relationship of his own.
I wish she would have differentiated between the character's voices more. In some of the dialog scenes, it was difficult to follow just who was saying what. It was especially weird because the main character and her boyfriend were sometimes hard to tell apart.
Overall, it was an entertaining story that probably would have benefited from a better narration.
It would take a lot, but I might consider her work in a different genre.
I feel like her interpretation of the protagonist was often at odds with the character's description. Sam sounded like a flighty, irresponsible twenty-year old with low self esteem and who could not control her emotions. It made me question why anyone would trust her with the kind of responsibility she was given.
Sam, sadly. I found her incredibly annoying.
way too much sex and romance . I did not make it past the 5th chapter ,there was little to no substance just sex. if you like soft porn then this is the book for you . for me it was a wasted credit.
I thought I was downloading a mystery not something with sex scenes, christian guilt by a 29 year old losing his virginity with angst over abortion to where the murder seems secondary to the emotions of the primary characters. If I had wanted emotional breakdowns and inability to commit to romantic relationships I'd have bought a romance.
