The wife of the White House deputy chief of staff has been beaten to death, and their one-year-old daughter is missing. D.C. Police Lieutenant Sam Holland is in charge of the murder investigation, but she's forced to collaborate with Special Victims Unit detectives as well as thorn-in-her-side FBI Special Agent Avery Hill. Then, a cold case of her father's resurrects old hurts - a distraction Sam cannot afford.
As Sam's investigation heats up, so does Nick's political career - and the heat carries over to their bedroom. Will Sam put the pieces together in time to catch a killer and find the baby? Or will ambition, greed and lies prove fatal?

I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
For me, Fatal books are one's to savor. Even if I get an ARC, I still wait because once I finish it, that's it for a while, I'm done. So I like to take my time, read slow and really ENJOY the time I get to spend with Sam, Nick and the whole Fatal crew. Yes, it did only take me a day to read this last installment, but every hour was soooooo worth the wait.
Fatal Deception sucks you into the plot from the first chapter and has you on a roller coaster ride of suspense until the very end. I had so much fun reading this book, I wished I could be Sam for the day...Sometimes her job can be SO MUCH FUN!!
The emotions were running high, the sexual chemistry between Nick and Sam was OFF THE CHARTS HOT, and we have some great new characters ready to stir up some action. I will say that I did kind of fall a little in love with FBI Agent Avery Hill, I really enjoyed being able to get into his head and I do hope that Marie finds him a soul mate...he really is the "heart stealer" of the book.
There are so many things that I want to say, but I hate giving ANYTHING away, especially to my tasty readers who are HUGE Fatal Fans. All I will say is that you won't be able to get enough, especially when Nick takes charge...oh baby...just you wait!! And the end, if the "letter" doesn't have you tearing up, then a certain conversation will have you reaching for a tissue.
Marie, I love this series, and I guess we can thank Baby Sofia for being stubborn and not wanting to come out, that I was able to read and review Fatal Deception. I am so excited for what you have in store for us next, and I will be a Fatal Fan For Life!!
This is the 5th book inthe "Fatal" series by Marie Force. The first book takes you by storm and the storm hasn't stopped yet. I suppose any could be read alone, but if read in order if you can. I hated to have the story stop---I'll need to wait months for another installment!I read dozens of books each month---few have gripped me so quickly and entertained me so well as the "Fatal" books. This one doesn't disappoint!
Hated, hated, hated the southern accent. OMG! Horrible! And please let Nick do something worse than hang up his clothes. He is too good to be true even for a romance novel. I am starting to hate him! I have read and listened to all these books, and I need a more flawed hero! I actually like Sam, but I can't see her with Nick. They are turtle doves!UGH!
This series is getting more and more like the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb - I see many parallels. I like the story around Sam & Nick almost as much as I did (do) the one around Dallas & Roarke. However, the narrators of the "Fatal" series aren't quite up to Susan Ericksen. Especially the character of FBI agent Avery Hill is awful to my ears - sooooo slooooooow.
Great Books Don't Promote Violence
When US senator Nick tells his police officer wife Sam "I get hard when I remember hitting you" I wanted to vomit. Author Marie Force is attempting to change Nick & Sam's relationship from an equal, loving partnership to one in which degrading, violent and abusive behavior is considered romantic and/or erotic.
It's ironic that in this Fatal series there is a subplot involving the kidnapping, beating and rape of a female officer. On one hand, the author seems sensitive to the emotional & physical trauma that a victim of sexual assault suffers. Paradoxically the author starts promoting domestic abuse as an "alternative lifestyle", as if a strong, intelligent women could actually enjoy being slapped and humiliated.
The other 99% of Fatal Deception is engrossing and entertaining, showing that Marie Force is a gifted writer. I can't imagine why so many successful female authors are willing to exploit their own gender. Ever since FSOG made millions of dollars by encouraging immature, pathetic women to believe that men have the absolute right to beat, rape, and torture them.
I am a 62 year old mail carrier who has had her sanity saved by audiobooks
damned near anything...i loved this series till i got to this one and it is all i can do to finish it
cut the crap...make her characters more believable...yee-gods.... the fbi agent is a joke, the kid is too good to be real...seriously what kid wants to go to a political fundraiser??? the southern accent is horrific...no one is as plucky and whiny all at the same time as sam has become...and no cop ever gets hurt that often...and it's always something that hurts but not slaughters her "ravishing" beauty....
ok till she tries southern male...horrible
not that i have heard so far... i am done after this one...cause i can forsee sam getting into sexual submission... ick... not for a smart and savvy cop...and no two people are as hot for each other as these two..gimme a break...and the premise that without winning a single election the valiant nick is being groomed for the next presidential election??? .
she started with a wonderful couple of books...so sad they did not go the distance
Say something about yourself!
Good series. Great adventure for the senator and LT.
Sam. She is a complex character who excels at work and tries to balance marriage and family.
no. Hill sounded like a slow idiot. The narrator is unable to portray the male voices.
this series has a tender love story, strong character development and interaction between people I want to know more about. Added to this is a good mystery with plot twist, turns, and surprises. Then there are the political tidbits that make up so much of the story background but in no way is the story. There is simply nothing not to like and I am left hungry for more but have spent many happy hours with them.
A lot more mystery and less of everything else that going on in this book.
It has turned me off from any other book in this series.
She didn't destract, (the entire series has gone down hill for me) I guess she can only work with what she was given.
Unless the Author is planning to breakup the perfect couple she has spent several books creating, I don't understand the purpose of Agent Hill hanging around loving a women he can never have.
I thought the first book was really good. Enough with the sex scenes every other chapter, we get the heroine and hero are hot for each other.
