Publisher's summary

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

Fear for your mind.

loved the book but its missing a chapter 72!!!!!!!

The book started off slow but I stuck it out and loved it in the end. I love Dean Koontz!

The BIGGEST downside was that it is missing a 40 minute chapter (72). Which happens to be in one of the climaxes of the story. It was quite disappointing but I was already so invested in the book I just kept listening by piecing the things I missed together. Also, I had to skip around the last few chapters because they were out of order.

Missing Chapter 72, Unoriginal Plotline

I was honestly disappointed when I realized that the story's "villain" followed a methodology for ensuing chaos in a way that nearly mirrored that of another one of Koontz's books. Had I not been aware of that other book, which was written much earlier in his career, it likely would've been a better listen. instead, it felt like a worn out trope. Additionally, I felt the exaggerated show of evil in the antagonist was sensationalist and unnecessary, in my opinion. I'm all for detail but that was a bit much.

great subplots and memorable characters

It starts out as an admittedly slow burn, you might wonder what's going on at first but keep at it, when the story gets going it's very good, there's also some memorable koontz dark humour in this one

Chapter 72 missing

Please be aware this audio book plays chapter 71, then 74, 73 and 74 again. Chapter 72 is not read - it seems like chapter 72 has key plot points - unfortunately readers do not get to hear them.

Buyer Beware: Audiobook missing crucial chapter

I was enjoying the book immensely on a long drive. I had just finished chapter 71 when the book skipped to chapter 74. I listened puzzled for a while then went back to 71. It skipped ahead again. When I clicked Chapter 72 from the menu, it still played Chapter 74. I clicked chapter 73, it played fine. 74- played the correct chapter (74). Back to 72, the reader read 74 again. Chapter 72 is crucial to the book. I can’t finish it now because that missing chapter ruined it for me. Fix this Amazon!

Yet again an amazing read.

I've been hooked on the works of Dean Koontz since my mother introduced me to the J. O. Sanders narrated audio rendition of Dragon Tears back in 1993, when I was thirteen. From there I progressed to titles such as Mr. Murder (also read by Sanders), to Hideaway, Watchers, Midnight and others. I picked up False Memory back in the spring of '06 I believe, courtesy of the Twin Falls public library. I found it to be an excellent read. And as is sometimes rarely the case when dealing with audioboks from the public library, none of the casettes were damaged and so I was able to read the entire book. I found it here on Audible recently and was delighted.
False Memory begins innocently enough as do most of Koontz's books. Marty Rhodes wakes up to her morning grape juice and then takes Valet, her Golden Retriever, out for a walk. Returning home she's suddenly gripped by a terrible, inexplicable feeling that something is wrong. Meanwhile her house painter husband Dusty has his own troubles, for his brother Skeet seems bent on suicide and attempts to throw himself off the roof of the house Dusty and his company have been contracted to paint while its owners are on vacation. He successfully rescues Skeet but is disturbed by the incident. It's not long before things take a disturbing turn as a close friend of Marty's who had been suffering from a crippling Agorophobia suddenly commits suicide, though not before discovering a truth that places her life and those of her friends in danger. Another excellent Koontz villain brought to life by an excellent narrator. Well worth the time and money.

Wonderfully written and narated

I am new to the whole audio scene but was totally engrossed in this amazing novel.
It's real "edge of your seat" suspense and better than any movie.
I would definitely think twice before I visit a psychologist.
The characters really come to life and you'll find yourself wanting more.
This is a definite must read (listen).
