Publisher's summary

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

Fear for your mind.

Dean Koontz getting lazy

I like the performance and plot idea was captivating however his books begin to repeat itself. Good guy or couple in love against evil genius accumulating bunch of friends/allies to help them to fight evil. 98% of good guys alive in the end and evil dies. Great idea but poor follow up. Love Dean Koontz I know he can do better.

Weak for Koontz

Weakest Dean Koontz I’ve ever heard/reads.
The ending falls apart with a 20min wrap up of a half dozen characters - and no justice or resolution for some of the evil people. Plus unlikely storybook ending for the lifelong drug addict (oh, but who has a heart of gold apparently) male the ending bad enough for this weak book.

Exceptional Story

This is the second time I have been through this book, the first being in print and now audible. As before it has a great story, if not really original "Koontz" writing. The book is written in a way I believe would make a good movie. of course as with all the newer books published under the Koontz name it is idealistic, certainly in its ending. For me a major blooper was how the total write off of a rental car with bullet holes in it could have escaped police attention, but explaining that away would likely have made a good story unbelievable. Certainly written with a more mature (better) approach than other works such as "One Door Away From Heaven" this is a good listen and well worth the time.

Always like dean koontz

As with most dean koontz books This is a Great book with a good story line and characters. The narrator did a pretty good job only a few mispronounced words. I would recommend this book to any adult who enjoys a good read.

Creepy , but great

I get creeped out by the concept of someone messing with my brain so this one got to me. Usually I leave my book on going to sleep, but not False Memory, if I did I couldn't sleep.
I loved the narrator, able to give the novel flavor without destroying it, like so many do. His accent is a little distracting at first but only because I couldn't place it.

A lot of people complain about Koontz's tendency to over describe, but that is one of things I like about him. I didn't find the beginning "slow" because I trust him to be establishing his characters in their world in a way that will make me care what happens to them. As usually he gives us the bad guy from his own point of view which only makes me happy to see him defeated because he is so much more real to me.
I found myself wondering all through the end how we were going to get out of this one, and loved the little unexpected twist.

loved the book but its missing a chapter 72!!!!!!!

The book started off slow but I stuck it out and loved it in the end. I love Dean Koontz!

The BIGGEST downside was that it is missing a 40 minute chapter (72). Which happens to be in one of the climaxes of the story. It was quite disappointing but I was already so invested in the book I just kept listening by piecing the things I missed together. Also, I had to skip around the last few chapters because they were out of order.

Missing Chapter 72, Unoriginal Plotline

I was honestly disappointed when I realized that the story's "villain" followed a methodology for ensuing chaos in a way that nearly mirrored that of another one of Koontz's books. Had I not been aware of that other book, which was written much earlier in his career, it likely would've been a better listen. instead, it felt like a worn out trope. Additionally, I felt the exaggerated show of evil in the antagonist was sensationalist and unnecessary, in my opinion. I'm all for detail but that was a bit much.
