Publisher's summary

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

Fear for your mind.

Definitely Among the Best Koontz Books

The premise of this novel nears the precipice of my suspension of disbelief but that doesn't spoil the story; those who are familiar with neuroscience and psychiatry might enjoy certain aspects of this novel for their plausibility alone. It's not a horror novel, but a thriller based on the self-deception our minds can be capable of spinning. Koontz writes psychiatric conditions skin-crawlingly well; if you've seen or experienced severe phobias or obsessive compulsive processes you'll recognize that right away. The conditions woven throughout this book are real, and that alone reminds you that horror is all around us.

Broken

Something is wrong with this book. The chapters, 70-75 are both duplicated and jumbled.

First Time Dean Koontz reader

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator's voice just kind of grated on my nerves. He kind of growled out words when there was emphasis and it didn't set well with me. Might have just been me though, definitely listen to the sample and judge for yourself

Any additional comments?

This book was a nice thought. The story sounded so interesting, and it was, but I did not love the execution of the idea. This is my first book by Dean Koontz, and I thought because he is so popular I would probably love it, but the style really annoys me. He over discribes EVERYTHING. This is a personal pet peeve of mine so others might not be so annoyed with it. If you love Dean Koontz, you might love this.

More than I expected

I loved Stephen Lang.. At first I thought it was a lilt let long winded with the detail of certain things and sometimes seemed to go on tangents... But it was a dark minded emotional roller coaster and BECAUSE of all the detail you really understand each character and their emotions.. And you feel what they feel as they feel it..

It also had a lot of shocking moments that you don't really get from authors.. The kind that make you Audibly said "oh no! "
And that is NOT common MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE BOOK!!

Love love loved this book!
Job well done as always mr. Koontz

Spooky

Koontz does it again. An amazing story about how well you know your own thoughts and those who influence them. With plenty of action, suspense, and a feeling of dread to keep you listening for hours

wonderfully disturbing

The smooth voice of Steven Lang lends life to this disturbing novel. It will have you on the edge of your seat to the very end, and severely lacking in sleep.
