Fade Away | [Harlan Coben]

Fade Away

For sports agent Myron Bolitar, the disappearance of a man he once competed against was bringing back memories, of the sport he and Greg Downing had both played and the woman they both loved. Now, among the stars, the wanna-bes, the gamblers, and the groupies, Myron is unraveling the strange, violent ride of a sports hero gone wrong, and coming face-to-face with a past he can't relive, and a present he may not survive.

    ""electronic" narration? Slow-paced story"

I have enjoyed every Harlan Coben book - except this one. Many times during the listening, it sounded like the narration was "electronic" - i.e., as if changes were made in the narration via a machine. It would be hard to believe that the narrator really spoke that way! Also, his voice is so deep that he is difficult to understand. As for the plot, I found it very slow - the book dragged until the end, and as another reviewer stated, the end was rushed. Slow, slow, slow and then--------fast and finished! This book, while written a number of years ago, has me questioning if I want to try another Harlan Coben.

    "I love ME"

Coben's use of the double entendre, albeit a tad over the top, actually works! I find his sense of humor to be just right. Like a lot of recent authors, I found his ending to be a bit rushed; but rate this one as one of his best yet. More Myron!

    "I'm hooked on this series"

I'd give 4.5 overall only because I guessed the killer but just a little before the great reveal. You get enough info about the characters to feel invested in them though I have to say my crush is on "Win."

Don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Trip's cool though. Use Audible to make gym-training sane... And rip my imagination.

"My Second Myron Bolitar. NOT MY LAST!"

HINT... start with the first in this series and work forward. Yeah, this stands on its own bottom, but it is part of engaging character development. Soooo.... This is a terrific adventure, but do yourself a favor... lookup they Myron Bolitar series and start at the beginning. And when you get to Fade Away... buy it... and enjoy. BTW... Jonathan Maorsz is a treat actors... Uh-huh... Know the grammar problem in that last statement... meant it. Marosz brings the entire cast to life. Keeps 'em all straight... So I could. Thanks.

    "Myron Bolitar #3"
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot of FADE AWAY was not as good as the first two books. That being said, it is still a good book and worth a listen. This book delves into Myron's past and lets us experience the pain of loss at his almost career. As for the plot twists, Coben keeps us guessing until the end.I started the Myron Bolitar series with book 9, Long Lost which reeled me in. I ended up going back to the beginning. Yes, the series gets better with each book.

What does Jonathan Marosz bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

When listening to an audio series such as the Myron Bolitar Series, I am always grateful when the series has a good narrator. Jonathon's voice adds dimension to the story.and becomes identifiable to the series. I don't know if Jonathon narrates all the books of this series. I am just glad he has done so for the ones I have listened too so far.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen to audio books when I walk, exercise, do yard work, or go on long trips. This book is over 8 hours long. I never finish a book that long in one day. But it does motivate me to keep me moving for more stoy.

    Any additional comments?

To address the review that found the 90's technology such as *69 or cellular too distracting, don't read GONE WITH THE WIND. If you are that distracted by trivial things , don't read anything that doesn't take place in current day. Do watch TV Land either. They use, dare I say, rotatory telephone and TV that aren't flat screen and they use rabbit ears, not digital cable. And lastly, don't read the bible. Moses didn't bring down the TEN COMMANDMENTS on a Nook or Kindle.

    "Dated"

Be aware that this book really shows it's age by highlighting cutting edge "cellular" phones, floppy disks and cool *69 phone features. While I'm sure it was great back in the 90s, it is distracting now.
