Publisher's summary

Debt of Honor ends as Jack Ryan is confirmed vice president minutes before a mammoth act of terrorism kills the President, most of his cabinet, all but a few members of Congress, the entire Supreme Court and all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Suddenly Ryan is President, which is where Executive Orders begins.

Ryan's responsibilities crush in on him. Where should he begin? He must calm a nation, pacify world leaders, arrange a massive funeral -- while he rebuilds a government as quickly as possible. But that's not all. Enemies abroad and at home see opportunities, and they'll soon present President Ryan with an unimaginable crisis. How will he tackle his greatest challenge ever?

Critic reviews

"Holmes writes with an easy warmth about kind people who are trying their best but messing things up anyway.... A warm and lovely romance, perfect for readers of Rainbow Rowell and Louise Miller.” (Kirkus Reviews [starred review])

“The charm of Holmes’ novel comes not only from a genuine friendship between Evvie and Dean that develops into a sweet romance but also from watching amiable Evvie stumble through the process of finding herself in a realistic way. A warm and funny book that will utterly captivate fans of Abbi Waxman and Taylor Jenkins Reid.” (Booklist [starred review])

“Holmes’ debut charms, as a young widow and a former Major League pitcher learn to begin again.... At times deeply emotional yet sometimes extremely humorous, this is a satisfying crowd-pleaser.” (Publishers Weekly)

the story kept me wanting to see what's next. I looked forward to coming home and listening to this thrill ride adventure, it's better than any TV show or movie.

Was this book written with todays headlines?

This is an exciting book. It seems like it was written in 2020’s. As a teacher it would be a great book to read in our history classes - war - economics - civics. It encompasses it all. Brilliant.

A Must listen (or read)

This book was worth the listen even with Michael Prichard's dry narration (he got a little better since Cardinal of the Kremlin, not by much however). If you've been reading or listening to the Tom Clancy books then add this one. Totally recommend.

The story was long but sure was good. I enjoyed the plot. It could really happen that way.

CREEPY similarity to 2021 - COVID instead of Ebola

Although written some years ago - it sure seems like 2021 but with a senile president screwing up the country.

Epic

This story was so long, yet so good. I had some reservations when I saw the audio length over 50 hours, but it was worth it. So many threads were woven throughout this book, but I was never lost or bored. I have read some other reviews that were critical of the depth of detail in this book, regarding them as unnecessary. I suppose that is a matter of taste. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I give it my highest recommendation.

Great Book

it felt oddly similar to COVID and a contested election that followed, though this was a fictitious version
