Publisher's Summary

Evelyn Tester is sleepwalking through her suburban life - until a late-night phone call startles her awake. Her husband, a prestigious psychiatrist, has been in an accident. And he isn't alone.

Suddenly Evelyn's world isn't as tidy as she thought. And in the midst of it all is Juliette, not only her husband's secret lover but also his patient. If news of the affair were to get out, it would ruin more than just Evelyn's marriage. Although it's a bitter pill for Evelyn to swallow, protecting her family means staying silent - even if, as she begins to discover, the night of the accident has consequences far more dangerous than the unmasking of an affair.

But the more Evelyn learns about Juliette's picture-perfect life - complete with a handsome, unsuspecting husband - the more she yearns for revenge...and satisfaction. Her growing obsession fuels her rage, burning away her complacency. What will be left of her after it flames out?

    "Not a Thriller/Mystery"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This would best be suited for someone who likes romance books.

Would you be willing to try another book from Victoria Helen Stone? Why or why not?

Probably not, the concept sounded great, but it just fell short.

How could the performance have been better?

This narrator just sounded like a kindergarten teacher. It would have been better to have someone with a bit more personality.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The book wasn't bad, the problem I had was with the narration.

    "Loved the Trick"

I loved the storytelling trick of the Before and After. It just seemed like about 2/3 of the way through the Before sections just got in the way. That said, I'm a murder mystery detective girl, and I loved this. It had just enough slow reveal while keeping me engaged. It was hot and steamy and intriguing and desperate. It was almost like she was writing the nightmare of every housewife. Great read. Great narration. The only drawback was the boredom of the Before chapters towards the end slowing the progression of the action.

    "Predictable"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I wish that there was more dire consequences to the actions of everyone involved. The way it is it reads like a movie of the week.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It's pretty much how I thought it would end, predictable ending.

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I haven't had the pleasure.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    "Good"

This is a good book... short, but good. The narrators voice is so soothing! And the story is very good.

    "Shallow story, tedious pace"

This is the standard story about a husband who has an affair and the wife who wants revenge. For an author who has written several books, I expected more mature writing with a better storyline. I gave up halfway through after hearing about her public hair at least five times and her frumpy middle-aged body more times than I wanted to. The story dragged and had no substance. At times, the narrator sounded almost robotic. I hate to give bad reviews, but this one is just not worth the money you'll spend.

    "Keeps you guessing"

This is my first book by Victoria Stone. From the first chapter, I was hooked. A successful psychiatrist finds himself at the mercy of his wife after being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Two couples who do not know each other find themselves forever entangled as lies and deceit weaves its way through their lives. Compounded with a suspiciously death and you have a great book.

It moves graciously from present to past but you can easily follow as their are not that many subjects in the story.

I did not however like the end of the book. All this suspense has been laid out and you think the end will be thrilling. But it just kinds slows down and mentions how everyone's life moved all. There could have been a huge dramatic ending, but maybe the writer lost interest. I was disappointed.

All in all I would recommend it.

    I
