Publisher's Summary

New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

Her trip to Georgia to meet the mysterious author takes her to an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, where Maris finds Parker Evans, a man confined to a wheelchair who carefully hides his past. Coaxing his novel from him chaper by chapter, Maris becomes caught up in his tale of two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of sex and drinking. Only one person will return from that trip.

Disturbed about her sexual attraction to Parker and worried about her marriage to author and her co-publisher Noah Reed, Maris returns to New York, where the delivery of Parker's newest chapters convince her they are more than fiction. She wonders how well she knows her husband and begins a harrowing search for a truth that ties back to a terrifying crime and a man who will use her, or anyone, to get his revenge.

    "Envy"

One of the first audio books I have not been able to "put down". The ability to hold one's interest as she weaves from "sub-story" to "sub-story" is phenomenal. Definitely a 5 star book.

When I clean, drive or exercise I listen to romance. The steamier the better but it must have a great story as well!

    Story
"Blew me out of the water!"

I was really surprised by how much I loved this story! I loved all of the twists and turns, I never saw them coming. I loved each character, they were so well developed that you felt attached to each one. The story may seem a little confusing at first because of the flashing back and forth through time. However, this really must be done so that you can form your own idea of what is happening, without being led by the characters. This is a must in my opinion! Defiantly a good read while in the car or doing monotonous work. You want to listen to this story when you can fully focus on it. I listened while doing the dishes after dinner, it always gave me the most vivid dreams.

"LOVED IT!!! Another Great Sandra Brown Novel"

I am a huge Sandra Brown fan and I have read almost all of her books and I am rarely disappointed. Envy did not let me down. The story within the story was great. You can kind of foreshadow what's to come, but there are lots of little twist that you don't see coming. And I have to say, being a huge fan of Audible.com that Victor Slezak is a great narrator. He has narrated several of Ms. Brown's books and the way he can switch accents and voices makes you believe there are different people talking and takes you inside the book.
I saw some of the bad reviews so I was afraid Ms. Brown might let me down this time, but apparently those people were looking for a different kind of book. I don't like Sci-Fi so I know I'm not going to go buy a Sci-Fi novel. Sandra Brown writes Romance and Suspence novels, if you don't like those types of novels, this isn't for you. So don't write a bad review because you purchased a novel that you won't like to begin with. When you read Ann Rice, expect bloody vampire scenes and don't be offended when you read them. When you read Sandra Brown or Joan Collins, expect sex scenes and if that offends you, then don't read them. And certainly don't give them bad reviews because you wasted your money buying a novel that wasn't you're cup of tea in the first place. Ms. Brown, ENVY, was perfection as always!

    "Good Stuff!"

Another great book by Sandra Brown. Great plot, nice twists, etc. It was especially intriguing because you get to read a book within a book. I could hardly turn it off. It has a little bit of everything (love, lust, hate, mystery, revenge)so it is appealing to different types of readers. Also, the narrator is easy to listen to. Nothing ruins a good book worse than a boring narrator :(

    "GET THIS BOOK!!!!"

I have read and listened to quite a few books from all kinds of genere's. This is absolustely one of if not the best book I have ever listened too. I'm afraid to get anything else by sandra brown (or almost anyone else now) cause I don't know how she (or anyone else) could EVER top this book. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. Even till the end. I honestly can say that I DID NOT WANT THIS BOOK TO END. I can also actually say that I loved this book. And I have never said that before about a book. If you are debating on downloading this book, DON'T!!! It will surely be one of the best you ever listen to. This is my first Sandra Brown book, and I have to say, she is at the top of my favorite author list already!!! Now, YOU QUIT READING THESE REVIEWS AND GO DOWNLOAD THIS BOOK!!!

    "Gripping !!"

This for me is the best Sandra Brown I have listened to so far (Lethal is a close second)
The narrator did an excellent job and the story line kept be enthralled with the twists and turns it took. I was engrossed and could not stop until the final scene!

My next move is to find which one of her books is just as good!

    "Very Forgetable"

I was just looking through my library and came across this title and thought...Hey, when did I get this book. After listening to a few minutes I remembered that I just finished this book about 2 weeks ago. Shows you how forgetable the story is. Very average.

    Story
"I didn't realize it was a Harlequin romance"

I thought it was a very good story. This is my first book by Sandra brown & I thought she wrote the story well. I gave it a higher review for the overall plot - But the graphic sex scenes took away from the mystery part of the story. It's like she tried to go for shock value. It's like listening to someone intelligent say the F' word over and over again when describing something - And they seem dumber the longer they talk. I'm a guy. Not hard to look at either. I've had plenty of sex (with women) and I am not a prude, but I probably won't get another book by her for the previous reasons mention. I wanted a good mystery and it was - But the rest was unnecessary. The gone with the wind writing style was a little tough at times also. Not because of the Georgia setting - But the way they spoke. It was like I was living in a different Century. I talked myself out of a four star rating while writing this. Like I said - Great plot - BUT.
