"Superior crime fiction, as suspenseful as it is psychologically acute." (Booklist)
"Smooth prose and plausible characters, even the secondary figures, elevate this several notches above the standard cop vs. serial-killer thriller." (Publishers Weekly)
The Harry Bosch series are the best. Hope they never end.
I read this book in 1 day couldn't put it down.
Excellent read recommend highly. Love the reader he actually makes the character come to life.
I've enjoyed the previous Harry Bosch books, and I was enjoying this one until about halfway through when the storyline took several turns that were so improbable and hard to believe that it spoiled it all. I found myself wondering how the author could expect us to be this willing to 'suspend critical judgment' and continue to stay involved in the story.
I have listened to many Harry Bosch stories and this one had many intricate twists and turns. Harry's a good smart cop who always gets his man - one way or another. It will be interesting to see whether he ever gets the girls again. Well written and well read.
Another enjoyable, suspenseful book from a master of the genre. The plot twists were good and kept me guessing right up to the end. The only dissapointment is that now I have finished it and I have to wait months for his next book.
I really love the Harry Bosch series and was enthralled by this one...a really great mystery that I just couldn't "put down" -- it seemed like half the time. The development of the character along with the hunt for the villians and the backdrop of LAPD and LA politics make for a fine story. The narrator is particularly skilled with both the male and female voices...a pleasurable "listen." I find myself anxious for the next book in this series. Buy it, sit back and enjoy!
I have read all of the Bosch books and find this one among the best. Well written and gripping, keeps you puzzling with the detective over the next step. Great read.
I am almost 2 hours into this book and it is sooo slow and boring. I usually like Michael Connelly, but this one goes nowhere for the first 2 hours, there is no action, just a lot of slow talking. I will continue to listen, I hope that it picks up, but I am tempted to give up. In all fairness, I am only 2 hours into a 10 hour book, so it may pick up, but if you like your books to get right into the action, it does not happen here.
I don’t enjoy writing bad reviews but I felt compelled to give back some of the time lost on this novel to anyone that might be prevented from reading this. When I was listening to this book, the running commentary in my mind was, “Is this all it takes to get a book out there?” I mean, the characters were two dimensional and unimaginative caricatures of themselves, the plot was mind blowingly simple, most of the twists were just dumb and unbelievable, the dialogue stiff and comic book like, and the whole thing felt ‘cookie cutter.’ The reader was just terrible, monotone and lumpy in his cadence, like he was driving from period to period in stop and go traffic.
In one way it was kind of encouraging, that if you can get one or two decent books out on the market, you can coast on your laurels for awhile and make a pretty good living by writing a lame series. People seem to like it, so who am I to say it’s lame. Sorry Michael, but enough is enough already.
