Don't miss any of Jack Reacher's adventures.

I have read some of the other Reacher books, but this one is my favorite...so far. This one seemed more balanced, fleshed out, than most of the others. If you read Reacher novels for blood and guts, you'll find this one has more about the story and the characters than usual. That's what makes a classic. I think this one is going to last.
Maybe I'm just getting better about "suspending disbelief" that there could be anyone as unreal as Reacher, but I think the author made him more real in this one than in the others. He was more human and less a cipher.
So were the other characters. I've lived in west Texas, and I've met some of these people, and the climate. You really can tell when a storm is building, even if it takes a couple of days to get there, and you can especially smell the rain before it hits. It's the most amazing scent!
Dick Hill was an ideal narrator for this story. A lot of male narrators have a difficult time doing women's, and especially children's voices, with out making me snicker, but not here. The female and child's voices were indicated quite clearly without trying to imitate them. That's all it needed, it was easy to follow and tell who was talking. It was an excellent performance. He is a great narrator, and never strays into a sing-song cadence as some do.
I'd read so many negative reviews that I almost passed up this jewel. It is a well written mystery that kept me guessing until the climax. Was the character Carmen Greer completely lying or completely truthful?
The believability of Jack Reacher improved in this novel over a few of the earlier in the series. In this one, his brain was as important as his brawn.
Dick Hill as always did an excellent job narrating despite having a tough character -- a six year old female child. (After all, it's a narration, not a radio play.)
The women in this book are so whiny and purposefully helpless that I was rooting for Carmen to get the gas chamber just to rid the gene pool of her. Please Mr. Child, give women SOME credit for not being the stupid damsels in distress that can't think their way out of a corner without the help of some man. I was insulted, and I am a big fan of the other Reacher novels.
Everything about this story disappointed me. The characters, the plot and the reader.
the reader's female voices were so whiny and grating that it was misery just listening to him. I don't know if he did this on purpose, but please get another reader for the women characters.
All the female characters.
Lost in another World
My baby sister was born in one of the main towns mentioned in this book, which is out in the middle of nowhere, which, no one has ever heard of, which tickled me to pieces. Way to go, Lee! I didn't guess what was going to happen in this book, of one of my favorite characters. I did keep up with every clue, and wondered when they would be brought into the main plot. I'm reading these in order, since there is a really nice collection already out there, and ready to read. Ok, to listen and enjoy while I'm driving to work and home again. Audible makes traffic jams, a blessing.
like thrillers, spymasters, espionage, some sci-fi. S.M. Stirling, Lee Child, W E B Griffin, Clive Cussler, Tom Clancy
Many plot twists
Jack Reacher is the hero and my favorite. Dick Hill does a great job with the character.
This audio book will not disappoint! It was very well written from beginning to end. Reacher is believable and leaves you wanting to follow him to the next adventure. Dick Hill's narration is Superb as usual. Enjoy!
I am a huge fan of Lee Child. I've read all of his books and as a new Audible member looked forward to hearing them aloud. Dick Hill's narration of women voices however is absolutely terrible. Another reviewer's comment was right on point: Lee Child writes strong women but Dick makes them weak and whiny and simple unbearable. I'm two hours into the book and I don't think I can listen anymore.
I thought this book was very entertaining. It had all the ingredients for drama and suspense. I thought it was good and I will order more of Lee Child's books in the future.
