The reacher series always provides an easy interesting read. not earth shatteringly great but always entertaining
I prefer single protaganist stories, with values similar to my own. Reacher is a man of few words and deep thoughts. This particular story features several plot twists I found unexpected, but they greatly improved the story
Mr Hill brings inflections and pacing that occasionally inspires an understanding of the characters I might have missed out on had I been reading this book
Reacher, the man you need on YOUR side
I can heartilly recomend this story (or any Reacher novel) to those bibliophiles looking for a good escape from the daily grind
Knowledge is knowing the way. Wisdom is looking for an alternative, more interesting road to get there. Audiobooks are that road.
I picked this book up at the Audible sale a few weeks ago. My first Lee Child book. Lots of action, great story. I was sort of picturing Clint Eastwood the whole time as the Reacher character. It was a fun listen and kept me going, however, I found Reacher a bit unrealistic. Somewhere between mortal and comic book super hero. I would also like to know a bit more about Reacher's background other than he was a military cop. I think that would add substance to the book. Enjoyable listen though.

Dick Hill IS Jack Reacher! Lee Child is the master of suspense with the innate ability to think like the reader only to employ an unanticipated spin.
I am a voice over artist with work in tv, film, radio and commercials all over the world.
Like the series so far, up to this book. This was a tough one to keep following... Just kind of stalled out until the last hour.
Jack Reacher is always meeting my expectations, and Dick Hill brings it to life. Another great book in my library.
This is one of my favorite Lee Child Reacher novels. I think the storyline is good, but as usual with most of these Reacher novels there is a period, usually about mid-way through, of churning, that is, the story goes in a circle of hashing and rehashing which can be a good thing for a 14 hour novel. In this case, Reacher tries to determine if the woman is lying or telling the truth. He believes her but there seems to be evidence to the contrary.
This novel involves domestic violence and racism. Is the woman being beaten or is she lying? Was the investigation into several murders of Mexicans illegally crossing the border swept under the rug?
As with most mystery/suspense novels (my favorites), parts of what Reacher had deduced earlier on are not revealed until the end. I had two suspects in mind, one was innocent and the other was the villain.
One reviewer said that Reacher is becoming a "clarvoyant superman". Is it clairvoyance or is it common sense based on experience. I understand the reviewer's sentiment but I like the way Reacher uses his years of "experience and training" in what seems to be a clairvoyant kind of way. If you like Reacher stories, then you understand how he operates and that you must "suspend your disbelief" to a great degree and just enjoy his antics...I enjoyed this story. I couldn't stop listening. . a really fun and enjoyable listen...
Dick Hill is a really good narrator of the Reacher novels so much so that I will not listen to Reacher novels that are not narrated by Dick Hill... Recommend
I loved the first book in the Jack Reacher series (The Killing Floor), but in ECHO BURNING, the author advances a negative portrayal of white males in NW Texas. In this book the only white male who is not a racist and bigot, is Jack Reacher.
No, I love the genre. I have one more book in my library written by Lee Child, that I have not yet read; and I will listen to that one before I make a final judgment on Lee Child's books.
Dick Hill is a wonderful narrator, and I will always seek out books that he narrates.
I will be returning the book for a full refund.
I wish Mr. Child had done his research. There were just too many glaring absurdities. Armadillos protected in Texas?! Driving 60 miles to the nearest grade school? 3 hired hands who do absolutely nothing and sleep in? Ranch owners that are all evil, lazy and sit on their hands? ONE truck on a ranch? I got tired of hearing how HOT it is in Texas in the summer. The people just didn't act or re-act like most country folk would.
I cringed at the way the legal system was depicted. No police officer is going to leave a little kidnapped girl with a drifter overnight to await the return of her mother. Unbeliveable situations like this just ruined the book.
The author is obviously a city boy who never bothered to visit a working Ranch. I have loved the Reacher series but you HAVE to have a little realit yand logic in the story! This book didn't show Reacher as being extra intelligent or tough, it just made everyone else in the book lazy idiots.
Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote.
I can't think of one.
Yes! I do love the charactor and Dick Hill does an amazing job. But I would hope the author would take a little more time to do his research and develope charactors in the next book.
Just trying to figure out why Mr. Child let them cast Tom Cruise as Reacher in the movie. Another bad decision.
