    "Fantastic narrator saves this story."

Barbara Rosenblat is FANTASTIC. Yes, I'm using caps because she deserves them. The book was only okay for me. It had some good parts mostly to do with Goldy emotionally hitting rock bottom in her on-going divorce, but I did not like Goldy as a character. In the book, she came across as too stupid to live. But, when Barbara read the book she made me believe in Goldy. Instead of being a failed detective wanna-be, she came across as a real woman with all of her pain and confusion and imperfections.

    Story
"Love the series- not so crazy about narrator"
What made the experience of listening to Dying for Chocolate the most enjoyable?

The series is great and the characters captivating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dying for Chocolate?

    Mother-son relationship

How could the performance have been better?

I can't stand te narrator. Can't the mute out her swallowing and mouth noises? She also cones across whiny sometimes. Makes me a little crazy- the reason I have requested the rest of the series from the local library to read.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No.

    Story
"Couldn't finish it. Narration too horrible."
Would you be willing to try another one of Barbara Rosenblat’s performances?

The narration was the only thing that made this audible book unlistenable. I had read some reviews that said the narration was not very good, but I thought how bad can it be? Diane Mott Davison was just the right choice for my drive to Sacramento with my sister-in-law. I knew that it was a story we would both enjoy and we would complete the book before we got home. We were done in half an hour. Every sentence seemed to dripped with sarcasm. The pauses and sighs were too numerous to count, even in the scant 30 minutes we listened. Please buy the book. This audible experience will make you crazy and ruin an otherwise good story.

"fun mystery that made me hungry!"

I was unfamiliar with this series, but I enjoyed the audiobook. Barbara Rosenblat is a great narrator, although I had trouble visualizing how her voice matched the physical description of the character. This is, I'm sure, purely my own quirk, and should not be taken as a general criticism. It was a fun mystery that certainly kept up the suspense.

    "Buy the book version"

I hate the narrator but the book was good. I wish the series could be redone with a new narrator. Barbara Rosenblat does not do it any justice.

    "Fun"

The Goldy Mysteries aren't meant to be serious literature or even, I think, all that logical - they're a silly way to make it through vacuuming the living room or backwashing the pool. I know Barbara Rosenblatt is a popular narrator, but her mouth noises gross me out. The listen would have been more enjoyable if the sound engineer had dealt with all that juicy smacking, popping and wheezing. Yuck.

I am a retired Court Reporter and I LOVE books. All kinds of books but my favorites are mysteries and period books. I like civil war books and some biographies.

    "Good Listen.....Surprise Ending"

I'm more of a paranormal romance type reader myself, but I enjoyed this book and the story as it unfolded. It kept my interest, and kept me guessing as to who the murderer was right up to the end. The only thing I didn't like was the looooong pauses between chapters. I often found myself checking my MP3 player to see if it had shut off by itself after the chapter ended........

    "Not worth it."

After I suspended my irritation at the smoker voiced "young mother" narrator I enjoyed the first half of this book but the ending felt really weird. Like the Author rolled the dice to decide who was the murderer and then tried make it fit. Stupid choice for murderer to boot(must have been a bad roll) All the fun loose endings tied up dully. Plus the heroine is tough some moments and a doormat other times... matbe she, the heroine, was the psychopath and wrote this stupid story to frame the "murderer".

    "Enjoyed It!"

I've listened to other books in this series, but never this early one; I think this was the second book in the series. They had it on sale so I got it, and I'm so glad I did! I really enjoyed it. I can see why the series has gone on so long. It kept me guessing right to the end.
