Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Diane Mott Davidson changed the mystery novel forever with her culinary crime series. Filled with heart-stopping suspense, garnished with mouth-watering gourmet dishes, and sprinkled with wry humor, these delicious cases have captivated readers from coast to coast.

In Dying for Chocolate, intrepid caterer Goldy Bear has moved to the posh Aspen Meadows Country Club, where her tasty concoctions are a hit with the wealthy residents. But when her boyfriend, a local analyst, perishes in a car accident, Goldy suspects that his death has all the ingredients of a homicide.

If you have an appetite for murder as the main course, you will relish every word of Goldy's perilous adventure. Veteran narrator Barbara Rosenblat brilliantly conveys all the intelligence, wit, and energy of this irrepressible mistress of menus.

Fun

The Goldy Mysteries aren't meant to be serious literature or even, I think, all that logical - they're a silly way to make it through vacuuming the living room or backwashing the pool. I know Barbara Rosenblatt is a popular narrator, but her mouth noises gross me out. The listen would have been more enjoyable if the sound engineer had dealt with all that juicy smacking, popping and wheezing. Yuck.

Fun and love Barbara

This series is one of my favorites. It's mysterious, yet fun and has great recipes. Plus, Barbara Rosenblat narrates, what is there not to love.

Fantastic narrator saves this story.

Barbara Rosenblat is FANTASTIC. Yes, I'm using caps because she deserves them. The book was only okay for me. It had some good parts mostly to do with Goldy emotionally hitting rock bottom in her on-going divorce, but I did not like Goldy as a character. In the book, she came across as too stupid to live. But, when Barbara read the book she made me believe in Goldy. Instead of being a failed detective wanna-be, she came across as a real woman with all of her pain and confusion and imperfections.

Dang, I listened to the whining way too long.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I can't imagine anyone liking this book. Her over use of adjectives and dramatic scenes is enough to choke you.

What was most disappointing about Diane Mott Davidson’s story?

It could have been a cute story, but she drones on and on for each scene.

Didn’t care for the narrator

I thought the narrator’s voice didn’t match the character at all. Also the narrators inflection didn’t match the situation. Story itself was just fair.

A bit better than the first

While this one was a bit better than the first i still couldn't really care for the characters. The plot is good and a nice twist at the end. Just.......

Buy the book version

I hate the narrator but the book was good. I wish the series could be redone with a new narrator. Barbara Rosenblat does not do it any justice.

Excellent narrator. Most irritating, whining, foolish heroine.

I loved the narration. The plot is fairly good - I couldn’t come up with a better one which is why I’m not an author! But the heroine of the book is the most whining, bitchy, complaining character. If this was real life, I’d avoid her like the plague.
