Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police department had never met anyone like Marlie. He had doubts about her clairvoyance, but there was no doubt how much he desired her. Her soft, sweet scent set his blood afire, and he wanted to wrap her in his arms and chase the sadness from her eyes. To Marlie, Dane was all heat and hard muscle, and he made her body come alive as it never had before. But not even she could foresee where their passion would lead: a hungry quest for the elusive, dreamy ecstasies of love...and a dangerous journey into the twisted mind of a madman who would threaten their happiness and their lives.

I have to admit that I often steer clear of some women authors because they sometimes portray the men in their books as sex-oholic morons. Before you ladies go off, let me say that I also understand why you are hesitant to read/listen to books that portray women as weaklings or air-heads. Well, Linda Howard provides the best to both worlds. She seems to always find a way to write books that appeal to both sexes. Dream Man has a great mixture... Its part police procedural (appreciated by the guys), part supernatural thriller (appreciated by the ladies), and part romantic sex-capade (adored by all).
My all time favorite Linda Howard book narrated by one of the best, what's not to like? Mr Gigante will never be known for his female voices but his male voices more than make up for that fact. I thought it was superbly done and can't wait for more old favorites to come to Audible.
This is an iconic and well-loved Linda Howard book, one that I was very glad to see come to audio. The book gets 5 stars but I had to knock at least one off for the narrator. Gigante is dead on with his uber alpha male voice (and hero Dane in this book is one of those for sure), but his girly voice gives me the shivers. Gigante actually swans his female voices - breathy, whiny and they always sound as if they're about to cry. He'd be so much better if he would just "read" female dialogue and not try to "do" it. Hey, then he'd be perfect. But I'm afraid I won't buy any more of my favorite books and listen to Gigante make my beloved heroines sound like really dumb ninnies.
I loved the mystery with romance.and the reader for a man reading the book did a great job. I will be looking for more books writen by Linda Howard.
I think sometimes people click "unhelpful" when they mean "I disagree". Can there be an agree/ disagree button next to the helpful option?
I love Linda Howard. Dying to Please, Killing Time, Angel Creek - some of my all time favorites.
But this book is not very good. My guess is, she tried to substitute violence for emotional involvement between moving characters. If you're a huge fan of Karen Rose, you might like it.
I'm a Linda Howard fan and I didn't like it. Neither the hero nor the heroine were particularly well drawn, their coming together never made much sense, the conflict comes out of nowhere then disappears when it's no longer convenient. Plot points are skipped over, blurred, the sex is hiccough-y...
This is a bad book. I gave it three stars because even bad Linda is better than a lot of other things.
And speaking of 3 stars - Phil Gigante would be a good narrator if he could do a woman charater that didn't end every! sentence! with ! an exclamation! point!
The plot in this book is interesting enough, but not outstanding in any way. Was actually disappointed when the main male character betrays the main female character. He wasn't exactly a knight in shining armor up to that point, but became a real jerk when he did that. I usually like Phil Gigante as a narrator, but his female voices were off in this audio and his male voices were not great either. Overall, I would not recommend this book.
Linda Howard has long been a favorite of mine and her talents are very notable it this story. Yes, Mr. Gigante does male voices much better than female voices, but we always know which character is speaking. I've enjoyed this audio book so much, I keep it on my iPod at all times no matter how many new choices I've downloadedl, I never tire of listening to it. Great story. Great characters and narrating is just about perfect. Mr. Gigante's narration has led me to other reads of his, never disappointing.
Phil Gigante must have had secret info on someone to get the narration of this book. His females voice made me want to be sick! It almost ruined this book, if the story wasn't good, I would have given up. However I refuse to use a credit an not listen to it.
I just love Phil Gigante's voice! He brings so much to the characters in this book, including the females! I try to listen to everthing he narrates.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
No, I did not enjoy the narrator. The story could of been much better. It was a great idea, but not enough material to make it a book worth my time and money.
Yes, I've enjoyed other books she has written.
I didn't like his performance. I did speed up the narration and that helped.
In my opinion its a less than average book. Save your credit/money.
