Publisher's Summary

The police are convinced that Julia Ransom was guilty of the brutal murder of her husband, renowned psychic August Ransom. But after six months of investigation and media frenzy, she is free of their scrutiny, because of a lack of evidence.

One afternoon, she walks from her Pacific Heights home to Fisherman's Wharf, alone, unwatched - and, she realizes, happy. Standing at the railing on Pier 39, she savors the sounds around her - tourists, countless seals on the barges - and for a moment enjoys the sheer normalcy of it all.

That suddenly comes to an end when a respectable-looking man distracts her with conversation before striking her unconscious and heaving her over the railing into San Francisco Bay. If it weren't for Special Agent Cheney Stone, Julia would've drowned. Cheney quickly realizes the attempt on Julia's life has to connect to the murder of her husband, and she reopens the investigation with the SFPD.

Meanwhile, in Maestro, Virginia, Sheriff Dixon Noble - last seen in Point Blank - learns about a woman named Charlotte Pallack, whose extraordinary resemblance to his vanished wife, Christie, gone for three years, sends him across the country. Although in his heart he knows that this woman can't possibly be his missing wife, Dix is compelled to see her with his own eyes.

In San Francisco, Dix's and Cheney's paths cross - they're brought together by FBI Special Agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock. All four begin to unlock the mystery behind Charlotte Pallack's identity, as well as the forces behind Julia Ransom's attempted murder and the vicious murder of her husband.

The most fascinating aspect of the case is the extraordinary cast of psychics they meet as they push deep into the intriguing and complex world of visions, mind benders, and communications with the dead.

As the stakes and the body count rise, Savich, Sherlock, Dix, and Cheney fight for answers - and their lives.

What the Critics Say

"Credible characters and a fascinating look at the world of psychics and thieves help make this one of Coulter's best." (Publishers Weekly)
"The use of two narrators allows for well-paced dialogue. Phil Gigantes' cool intonation helps to clarify the narrative....Sandra Burr handles the womens voices with a light touch." (AudioFile)

    "Intense "reading""

Catherin Coulter is truly a magnficent writer to "read". The story line is great - the book keeps you in suspense right to the end.

When the book ends you want to almost carry on reading about them.

From an audible experience, this was wonderful, the characters are great, the voices fenominal - i'd really want to listen to them all again!

Thank you, this book has kept me listening to the disgust of my family whom I have ignored because I've had to "finish this book"

    "See Jane run"

This is the most simple-minded, non-plausible story line that I have read in many, many years.

    "Great Book"

As always Catherine Coulter did a wonderful job with her writing. The book grabbed my attention from the start and held it all the way through. I feel like I know her characters... Dillon and Sherlock and the other FBI agents. Thouroughly enjoyed the book!

    "Don't bother with this listen"

This book was like reading something written by a fifteen year old for a twelve year old to read. It was so ridiculous in so many places! No character development, jumped all around and was just plain a waste of time. It hurt to listen to the end but did so hoping it would somehow get better, it did not.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I went looking for more of her FBI series on audible after listening to this. Coulter's writing doesn't always fit audible books, but this one was fine.

cant see it being filmed. I never go to films of books, always disappointed. Imagination is best.

"Could not even listen to this book"
Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Sandra Burr and Phil Gigante ?

    No

Has Double Take turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

I thought the writing was juvenile at best and the theme improbable in a genre where I expect some credibility. There was no style or flow to the story and I felt like the writer was back-filling things she forgot to lay out initially. I'm going back to the tried and true.
