Publisher's summary

“Like a breath of fresh air blowing across all crime-novel conventions, there is Dexter.” —Time

Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer. He enjoys his day job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department . . . but he lives for his nighttime hobby of hunting other killers. Dexter is therefore not pleased to discover that someone is shadowing him, observing him, and copying his methods. Dexter is not one to tolerate displeasure . . . in fact, he has a knack for extricating himself from trouble in his own pleasurable way.

Like the previous five best-selling novels in the Dexter series, Double Dexter showcases the witty, macabre originality that has propelled Jeff Lindsay to international success. Double Dexter is raucously entertaining . . . full of smart suspense and dark laughs.

Double D

This is worth the read if just for his interactions with his 1 year old daughter. It has plenty of WTH & WTF moments. I loved Astor's roll in this story. Fot me it didn't quite have the bite of previous Dexters. I think that often happens with books that are pivotal for character/circumstance transition. The story is good & Lindsay's narration is good. (except for his chapter annoncements..what's up with that?).

Very Predictable

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not really recommend, the Dexter books are getting very predictable and Dexter has gone from some one who was supposed to be a very intelligent person to a complete idiot in this book. The foreshawdowing is ridiculously obvious and makes the book anti-climatic.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The book was basically just

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Lindsay?

Jeff Lindsay is not a very good narrator at all. Other than this book his Dexter serious has been very good but he is not the person who should be narrating the story.

Did Double Dexter inspire you to do anything?

Second guess getting the next Dexter book when it eventually comes out.

Double the Trouble For Dexter.

Dexter returns with double the trouble waiting for him. In the wake of his latest escapade. Dexter finds himself in trouble as his activities has inspired another killer who taunts Dexter with the knowledge he not only know what Dexter is but who he is. Meanwhile at home Rita has been acting strange. his two worlds collide as he races to find his new friend and clean up the mess he finds himself in. The Main Plot of the new Killer is Old hat for the Dexterverse. Old foes and friends return to both help and hinder Dexter's Efforts. What makes the Book Fun are the subplots as Dexter's obliviousness to Rita's and the new killer's behavior leaves him as confused as ever with human behavior, Rita herself is hilarious as ever. As the climax builds seeing how Dexter resolves his situation are the best parts of the book.

spoiled by tv series

I don't know whether it was because I was trying to hear the "real" tv Dexter's voice or imagine the thoughts he might have, but Jeff Lindsay did not do it for me. His delivery for me was weak. Well, he did write the book so I have to believe he delivered it just as he intended. I was also unhappy with the divergence of the events between the series and this book; which includes people from the series being alive in the book who are dead on the tv series and Dexter's sister knowledge of his 'hobby' in the book but not on the television. I think if an author is writing for a character who also has a television show that he should at least keep the story history consistent. I found the story interesting but Jeff Lindsay's Dexter was too sloppy. If not for the interesting story I would have given the overall rating for this book a two instead of three star.

Complex but fun!

In this book Dexters life is in a tailspin / He is in a race between Dexter and his dark passenger. The Story has twist & turns dark points and really funny frustrating parts (like all humans have).
Happy Reading!!!

Doting Daddy Dexter Delivers D'goods!

I have all the Dexter novels and this one is pretty good. Dexter is at that revolting stage of parenthood where he thinks they should hand out noble prizes for burping. Revolting but funny and I choose to believe adorable in self defence. Dexter is in a pickle trying to be a dedicated daddy and husband in the middle of coming the closest ever to being exposed as the dark avenger. Which among other things lands him in the middle of the wilderness on a Boy Scout camping trip that almost made coffee squirt out of my nose. My one complaint is that the self descriptive internal monologging got to be a bit much. Dexter the dark, Dexter the dangerous, Dexter the devious, Dexter of the enormous brain, Dexter the extremely long winded to the point of more than a few eye rolls and an unkind thought or two about the author using it to fill pages. Overall though I enjoyed it very much.

One of the best

Thought thus was one of the best story lines in the series. Too bad this one couldn't have made the TV series

Damn Dexter is Dazzeling!!!

I absolutely love the witty humor and darkness that Dexter demonstrates. I could dance the dark dance in castle dexter for decades. Days after reading Dexter I'm drawn back to the darkness over and over.

Not as good as the others

I am a fan of this series, but this book was my least favorite thus far. Lindsey got a little wordy, and he got very repetitive with the same overused adjectives/adverbs from the previous books like dithering and blubbering and dimpled. I also felt that there should've been more thought put into the story. For example, Dexter was a person of interest and he was shocked that someone would be following him...ummm...like the cops, maybe?
